Tree Style Tabs?
An alternative would be to use Tree Style Tabs, and placing the tab bar on the side of the screen. I find it answers quite well, and I didn't notice the tab UI change. I have a habit of opening a bunch of links from e.g. a wikipedia page, browsing each for a while, perhaps opening deeper links, and then wanting to close the whole tree. If you think that might match your browsing habits, give TST a try.

Re:Please, please just stop...
Then I would suggest you use this https://addons.mozilla.org/en-..., I do and I can assure my up to date version of FireFox looks nothing what so ever like Chrome, bit of a mix of vista (thanks to classic shell http://www.classicshell.net/) and of course regular old FireFox thanks to the afore mentioned addon . Keep in mind it is Mozzila FireFox and it is very configurable, hell, given the desire and the skill or money and you can rebrand it after yourself and do all sorts of GUI minded things to it.

Memory Usage Not Broken?
I use firefox on an atom netbook with 2GB of RAM, with 20-200 tabs open at any given time. I occasionally debug javascript as part of my work activities, so I have a ton of web development plugins installed, plus a tab tree plugin, plus SQLite Manager, and then of course NoScript, Adblock, etc. I'm using Crunchbang Linux, and Iceweasel 30 from Debian backports.
If you have the time, you may want to try some debugging, because this is not quite the most limited x86 machine sold in anything that we might call recent history, but damn close to it. Performance has never been an issue. Good luck.

Stable exists. Run the Eric S Raymond release (ESR), which is currently pinned to v24.
-
Re:Anybody please!
Classic Theme Restorergives you the option to put the tabs below the URL bar. I recommend it, even if you like Australis, because of all the nice customisation options it gives.

Re:Anybody please!
Tell me how to place the fucking tabs below the URL box.

Re:Please, please just stop...
If you don't like it, switch to the ESR channel.
It's still based on Firefox 24, the next one wont be till FF 31. It's kept up to date in terms of security fixes for 9 mainstream releases.

Wrong version?
The linked changelog and description are for Firefox 28. For FF 30: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/30.0/releasenotes/. Even accounting for FF's release schedule and for Slashdot delay, that's a bit much. Only important change for me as an end-user looks to be:

You apparently do based on your trolling "reaction" & as far as hosts? See my subject-line above + this quote:

As far as your opinion, see subject-line & this: Films = the FINEST artform & portrayal of the human condition imo (books are a BIT better though, you paint your own screens & don't have the director's filtering either + instead you use your OWN perceptions).
They elevate the human condition (in a world often full of shit) even if only for a moment, & inspire also...
They have also set those records I noted - MANY disagree with you, so "argue with the numbers" as they're against you, MILLIONS to your trolling 1...

Re:Get your "hooked on phonics" lessons out
If something unwanted is on a particular domain, that entire domain is suspect and ought to be blocked until it is proven absolutely clean and free of malicious code threats. Apk's program's rated best of its kind by its hoster, a respected source in the security community (malwarebytes' hpHosts) too http://hosts-file.net/?s=Downl... and it's a far more efficient solution than adblock is tearing up 5gb of RAM and tons of CPU https://blog.mozilla.org/nneth... and hosts do far more than any single browser addon for more speed, security, reliability, and anonymity as well. Can't beat that.

Yes, they work with MalwareBytes
Thus ARE part of the security community & yes, they've seen my code & have a copy of it for me as a backup, thank goodness (as, you never know)!
So - thus, I just wrote Mr. Steven Burn in regards to your "critique" (from a ball-less TROLL like yourself that has no code of his own, yet "talks" like he does, lol... show us it then (as was said by others here to you, "It's not")). Perhaps you're right, & he can make a correction, since that's all it is IF it's like you say. I could care less - Macs are not for me.
What I know, for sure, is that the result produced from my code is perfect, which is the bottom-line & all that realy matters & it works one HELL of a lot better for added speed, security, reliability, & even anonymity + FAR MORE EFFICIENTLY than that RAM & CPU hogging WRECK "Almost All Ads Blocked" -> https://blog.mozilla.org/nneth...
By the way: You are "stalking" me hypocrite... & by "pure ac" unidentifaible posts - which undoubtedly means I have utterly SMOKED YOU, so badly, in a tech debate before your butthurt PSYCHO brain can't handle it, lol!
(I don't stalk anyone - I mrerely confront them & challenge them to back up their b.s. like yours... not a single ONE ever has, so it's FUN to watch them "eat their words" too - which I am SURE I've done to you before, judging by your actions, "Count Stalkula"...).
APK
P.S.=> You can spout your b.s. all DAY, but it only makes me laugh (LMAO - especially YOUR BLUNDER on Pascal variable declarations you had to DOWNMOD when I corrected you on it -> http://games.slashdot.org/comm... )... apk

I'm under no obligation to do so
"Why don't you put your money where your mouth is APK, and let us see the code?" - by Anonymous Coward on Sunday June 08, 2014 @04:56AM (#47189351)
The security community's seen it (malwarebytes' hpHosts) & recommands it as "best of breed" http://hosts-file.net/?s=Downl... @ the top of that page, & tested it as 100% SAFE + CLEAN of threats of ANY kind (along with Norton/Symantec, Comodo, ClamAV, ArcaVir, etc. - et al from the JOTTI + VirusTotal online tests (00 of them).
Who are YOU by way of comparison??? Nobody, & certainly nobody I anything to for sure...
You also HAVE NO INTEGRITY, since you post "pure ac" making yourself unidentifiable, which speaks WORLDS about you, right there (you truly ARE a coward, & yes, a weasel)... period/fact!

The MOST embarassing thing for the "Open SORES" people here is despite all your talk & 'eyes on the code' (whicih most of you can't code period incidentally) couldn't Out-THINK or outprogram me... Proof? See my 'p.s.' below... lol, since IT IS FACT also!
APK
P.S.=>
.Wladimir Palant of AdBlock, whom I challenged to show me HE could prove his "Almost ALL Ads Blocked" could do MORE for users in added speed, security, reliability, & anonymity, AFTER he wrote me 1st stating "hosts are a shitty solution"?HE RAN LIKE A SCARED RABBIT!
LMAO! Another fact - should I foward the email your way as PROOF of that too? I can you know... of course, you're hiding behind PURE AC posts which only tells me I have utterly THRASHED YOU before in tech debates here...
(AdBlock = crippled by default & only does a FRACTION of what custom hosts can in added speed, security, reliability, & anonymity AND IT FAILS IN EFFICIENCY BIGTIME chewing up 4++gb of RAM & tons of CPU cycles too -> https://blog.mozilla.org/nneth... )
ALL EASILY VERIFIABLE FACTS

Re:I absolutely HATE to say this but... apk
You must be another slashdot troll apk's spanked on hosts vs. adblock the cpu/memory hogging wreck https://blog.mozilla.org/nneth...
-
Well, tell you what with proof
The link to my app (that I wager YOU downmodded since I corrected your erroneous b.s. about only having globalized variables in modern Pascal/Delphi) I wrote up that's in my post you downmodded?
It's SO WELL WRITTEN, & yes, in Delphi/Object Pascal, that it does MORE, & BETTER + far more efficiently than a competitor of it in AdBlock (almost all ads blocked crippled by default like it is souled out to Google no less is why)!
How can I say that? Simple & I can even forward you the email IF you like when Wladimir Palant of AdBlock wrote me 1st saying "hosts are a shitty solution", & I responded asking him to show myself OR ANYONE that "almost all ads blocked" can do more for end users & more efficiently... guess what?
HE RAN LIKE A SCARED RABBIT!
So... that tell you anything?? Does me! It told me WORLDS in fact...
APK
P.S.=> The BIGGEST thing it told me is that despite all those "Open SORES" eyes working his codebase produced a MEMORY & CPU HOGGING INEFFICIENT WRECK https://blog.mozilla.org/nneth... that doesn't do NEARLY as much in added speed, security, reliability, & even anonymity (as well as efficiency in design & resource usage) that runs on ANYTHING with a std. BSD derived IP stack (pretty much everything online) where AdBlock doesn't, & does far mess where I do MORE with FAR less & better... + that all those "Open SORES" fans couldn't out-THINK or outprogram "lil' ole' me" using what you're putting down... Delphi/Object Pascal!

Let me turn you onto something BETTER
By FAR & on multiple levels in efficiency, speed, security, + reliability:
APK Hosts File Engine 9.0++ 32/64-bit:

(Details of hosts' benefits enumerated in link)
Summary:

A. ) Hosts do more than AdBlock ("souled-out" 2 Google/Crippled by default) + Ghostery (Advertiser owned) - "Fox guards henhouse", or Request Policy -> http://yro.slashdot.org/commen...
B. ) Hosts add reliability vs. downed or redirected DNS + secure vs. known malicious domains too -> http://tech.slashdot.org/comme... w/ less added "moving parts" complexity + room 4 breakdown,
C. ) Hosts files yield more speed (blocks ads & hardcodes fav sites - faster than remote DNS), security (vs. malicious domains serving mal-content + block spam/phish & trackers), reliability (vs. downed or Kaminsky redirect vulnerable DNS, 99% = unpatched vs. it & worst @ ISP level + weak vs FastFlux + DynDNS botnets), & anonymity (vs. dns request logs + DNSBL's).
---
Hosts do more w/ less (1 file) @ a faster level (ring 0) vs redundant browser addons (slowing up slower ring 3 browsers) via filtering 4 the IP stack (coded in C, loads w/ OS, & 1st net resolver queried w\ 45++ yrs.of optimization).

Re:"HTML5 video" doesn't actually exist.
I was merely suggesting that Netflix does not care about Firefox much, and the reasons are obvious to anyone who has a modicum of logic and business knowledge.
And you know that, how? For now, Netflix hasn't announced that they have a working agreement with Firefox as they have with other browsers. Maybe, the developers at Firefox are just slower than the others. At the present, the other browsers have made more significant strides with Netflix. Mozilla has ALREADY said they are working on it and their course of action but it has only been a month or so.
Perhaps you just need to stop trying to condescend to me. The business realities of this are brutal, and there's no need to sugarcoat it, nor to pretend that I'm conflating Netflix with DRM or other strange attempts to tell me I'm dumber than your average soap dish.
Then maybe you should stop putting out condescending statements attributed to Netflix when you yourself don't know the whole situation.
-
Linux soon?
So presumably, Firefox will bring Netflix to Linux as well. While I can't say I'm happy to see DRM, I'm happier to be able to play the content than not be able to, and I don't think not including support for broadly-used technologies is going to win any wars.

Re:Why bother?
You're right. Nice post, you sent me on a dig around ddg. Would this be a work around? It's a browser plugin that uses GPG web of trust to check certificates peer to peer. I don't know if this plugin actually works, but I think the idea is brilliant!

Re:OpenSSL and what else.
There are alternatives, although I can't comment on how they compare with OpenSSL.
GnuTLS (LGPLv2.1)
Mozilla Network Security Services (Mozilla Public License)
PolarSSL (GPL2 and proprietary).

Re:Welcome to your new walled garden
Luckily this isn't the bad old days where it was just IE and netscape, today you DO have options! There is Comodo Dragon (what I use, better security features and no phone home to Google) Chromium, SWIron, and Opera which my oldest boy swears is the greatest thing ever (boy is he still pissed they quit using presto) and on the gecko side there is Firefox, PaleMoon (the other browser I use, I prefer the UI over IceDragon and it seems snappier), SeaMonkey, IceDragon, if you need really low resource there is always Kmeleon which runs really well even on a P3 running Win98SE and if you want to avoid BOTH the Chromium and Gecko engines you can go with QTWeb which is just what it says on the tin, a cross platform browser that uses Webkit and the QT framework...quite nice actually and of course Safari if you are into Apple. There is one other....what was it? Oh yeah the big blue E thing.
;-)So if you don't like the direction Google is going? Don't use their products. After they started getting nasty with the TOS and trying to ram G+ down our throats I dropped Google like a bad habit, I set up a throwaway Gmail I never use just for my Android phone (so they can't tie my desktop and mobile together) and use my main Gmail for a spam dump, switched to Bing for my search and Yahoo for my mail so no one company has access too all my online data and ya know what? couldn't be happier. What DOES really piss me off about Google is how they have become a drive by spammer, you have no idea how many Chrome "infections" I've had to clean off of customers PCs because some "freeware" had Chrome tied into it. We used to get seriously pissed at how McCrappee and Horton used to dump their stupid scanners onto us with freeware so why isn't everyone mad at how Google is spamming Chrome? An unwanted install that takes over defaults...hmmm...if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck?
