Story submitted to slashdotI submitted a story to slashdot, which I don't think is going to go through. Here is the text of that post:
The government is going to be voting on a bill today that may give them the right to search records without a warrant, in secret. This bill has already passed the Senate! HELP!!!
The full story is at http://www.defendyourprivacy.com/
I have some other urls as well to go along with this:

Re:Actualy it was a jab at g0r3This is the Gore quote spoken to Wolf Blizter of CNN (not invented by some guy named Devan):
Gore: "During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet"
Now, you can cut that up like a lawyer, but to anybody whole is familiar with the English language, Gore was taking a granule of truth and exaggerating it out of proportion. That is another way of saying he lied. It would not be so noteworthy if he didn't do it every week, like claiming he and Tipper were the inspiration for Love Story, claiming to have written the Earned Income Tax Cut law and worked on the Strategic Petroleum Reserve while in Congress (both were created before he entered Congress), like claiming to have helped write candidate Hubert Humphrey's convention speech in 1968 (he didn't)
... And the list goes on.A good compiliation of some of Gore's most egregious lies are here. You are an apologist for a compulsive liar.
Now, what is equally amazing to me is how you could be having difficulty choosing between Browne and Nader. They have diametrically opposing views of the role of government. They could not be more contrary! Their only similarity is that neither one has the remotest chance of being elected. Your simultaneous interest in both these candidates says a lot about your political knowledge.

Re:funny, coming from a republican...Ramesh Ponnuru is a writer at National Review. Very good writer, young guy (twentysomething), saw him on Politically Incorrect once. If you search the NR site you can probably find the article. I subscribe to the dead trees version.
I thought Gore's patron was Occidental Petroleum? Run by the famously amoral Armand Hammer? (Did deals with Libya and other fun people...)

Re:monopoly... its not just a fun board game
But if it takes a loss for the year, they make you pay, by siphoning tax dollars you should have kept in the first place. See http://www.nationalre vie w.com/comment/comment092700b.shtml for more on the USPS.

Re:Oh, yes, the Republicans are libertarian!Yup, except for the war on drugs, the Republicans are pretty libertarian.
If you look past your preconceptions and prejudices, you might be surprised. William F. Buckley, an extremely influential conservative, said that The War on Drugs is Lost, and that we need to take a different approach to the problem.
As for the other issues that you mentioned, many Republicans disagree about the proper role of the federal government. The Republican Party is not monolithic. There are libertarians, evangelical Christians, small business owners, gun owners, pro-lifers, isolationists, social conservatives, economic conservatives and many other groups. The same is true of the Democratic Party. You have to look at both parties and pick the one you feel most comfortable with.
Any time someone says that the X party is in favor of, or opposes, a specific issue, you can bet that the truth is more complicated.

Re:Abusing Slashdot? She's a plagairist hack, did you know that? Rather than read Molly Ivins' unattributed quotations of Florence King, why not read the terrific iconoclast herself?

Re:Stupid jokeMarch 9, 1999; CNN interview with Wolf Blitzer
Gore: "During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet."You don't have to listen to Limbaugh to know that Gore is one lying, conniving little toad. For three pages of hilarious Gore lies (with citations) go here.

Silly studyMany studies are silly but this one is particularly so. Check out this commentary on that study. Note that the article at that link will be archived by Saturday 2/19, but the archive is accessible from that location as well.

Old newsSee this article in National Review for the non-WSJ right-wing point of view, from clear back in June '98. There is a lot of overlap with Bryan Pfaffenberger's article, with the exception of the professional organization nonsense.
Re unemployed hardware engineers: this happened mostly because the Defense Department procurement budget was gutted by the Bush/Clinton administrations and the pre-11/94 Democrat congress. So far the post-11/94 Republican congress has failed to correct the damage, courtesy of Clinton's veto pen. Decimate the biggest market for those engineers and yes, salaries and employability go all to hell. Throw in the technophobic attitudes towards nuclear power for good measure. (Had an interesting conversation with a disgruntaled nuke-tech a while back...)
Re don't spend the future: ditto. I'm keeping my debt level in check, even tho the U.S. federal tax code is rigged to encourage massive mortgage debt (best tax deduction on the books). All these folks with their heavily mortgaged McMansions and nice debt-fueled stock portfolios are going to look real stupid when/if the market tanks and their debt level doesn't. (This is what Greenspan is really worried about when he talks about "irrational exuberance", but he hasn't found the right words. Nuking the deductions in favor of a dramatically lower tax rate, as the Flat Tax proposed by Steve Forbes does would correct this serious economic instability.) I'm not saying don't have a little fun, and certainly not saying don't buy stocks, just watch that debt!
