Re:Mac — and skip the VM
You give up far too easily.
Check out this
and this
far far easier to just use a package manager on the OEM installed OS rather than installing a whole new OS just for package management. Esp. since you could have virtualized your linux install, with no detriment to performance. Don't get me wrong... I like linux too... but what you did was obliterate a perfectly good installation for no good reason just because you weren't accustomed to it. -

I think the proper way is ALL:
.tynt.com*.tynt.com shouldn't work on any platform, to my knowledge.

Can someone else honestly tag this...
as worstofslashdot? This article is only mildly interesting because I had never heard of Opera Unite before. But what is with such a low quality article getting on Slashdot? Slashdot is for people with half a brain. I don't care about "813 r/s"; saying that figure means nothing. And what hardware exactly? Reminds me of this post on reiserfs-devel (just the first two posts). At least he gives some comparisions later on, but a Slashdot article pointing to a witty comment in another article would probably make for a better read. Seriously though, what is happening to Slashdot? Digg sometimes is more consistent with good articles, and that is just sad. Slashdot is a great site overall and has its own unique taste, but it needs to stop pushing articles like this. Cheers! Yeah, I debated posting this as anonymous. Troll me down if you disagree.

Re:Why Linux?
OK, found out that the tool is called crunchgen, [....]
Yes. I found this old-ish article handy for actually using it. But there are also articles that discuss how to reduce the libc size as well.

Yes, ZFS FTW;
But note that shrinking pools is not yet supported. It's almost the #1 wishlist item though, so it shouldn't be too long coming.
While ZFS can be RAM hungry, the 8GB suggested by another poster is probably exaggerated, depending on your workload. A light ZFS workload runs fine on a 2GB box (which is what I run it on). 64-bit architecture is recommended for best performance.
More info at the OpenSolaris ZFS Community.

Re:Possible Civilian Uses?
The 'Wiki' concept is not owned by the organization that operates the Wikipedia. So, it's your job, or someone else like you, or a group of someone else's like you, to put up the WikiRobotics and get it going and maintain it.
There are Wikis on all sorts of other topics that are independent, i.e. the NetBSD wiki.
