Fallout 3 Van Buren Tech Demo Released
gbridge writes "Over eight years since the release of Fallout 2, the original (pre-alpha) tech demo of Black Isle Studio's abandoned Fallout 3 Van Buren project has made its way into the public domain. It's obviously a long, long way from being even beta quality but fans are rejoicing that they finally have something of the cancelled project to see for themselves. Bethesda have also given Fallout fans something to look forward to by announcing that a teaser video of their own interpretation of Fallout 3 will be released in 33 days time." -
Troika's Fallout 3 Pitch Prototype Showcased?
An anonymous reader writes "The No Mutants Allowed website has gotten hold of some screenshots of a post-apocalyptic RPG that was in development at Troika Games - the news story claims: 'Due to recent developments, [the prototype has] currently been put on hold.' Did the recent acquisition of the Fallout license by Bethesda kill chances of a Fallout 3 made by the game's original development team?" A recent messageboard post at the Troika-based Terra Arcanum fansite also suggests: "According to several unconfirmed rumors... Troika were also in the bidding for the license. In the end though... Troika were simply out-gunned." -
Interplay Finally In Process Of Going Under?
Random Guru 42 writes "GameSpot is reporting that Interplay is sliding further down the spiral of going out of business. Hopefully the rumors of Interplay's demise are greatly exaggerated." We previously covered earlier rumblings of Interplay's demise, and Sivar writes "According to a Fallout news website, Interplay has 'told the employees to file for unemployment' [a later source indicates 'the employees have until Friday to move all of their personal possessions out of... the Interplay offices]." Finally, an update to the GameSpot story has an un-named, masked employee insisting on the closure rumors: "No, that's not true" - it's also pointed out Interplay "...is facing a battery of lawsuits, including one by Arden Realty for $432,000 in back rent and another by BioWare for $156,000 for unpaid Baldur's Gate royalties." -
Fallout 3 Back From the Dead?
BiteMyShinyMetalAss writes "According to a GameSpot story, Interplay plans to publish Fallout 3. However, development has not been restarted, and it will likely be farmed out from the sounds of it. There is supposed to be an announcement with more details coming soon to your neighborhood. No Mutants Allowed is also covering it." -

Fallout - BoS Welcomed By Some, Not Others
Thanks to GameSpot for their hands-on impressions of Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, the PS2/Xbox action RPG that's set in the world of the seminal PC RPG series. The article comments: "Though we're still in mourning over the passing of Black Isle [and cancellation of Fallout 3 for PC], we're comforted by this new game that's playing as expected thus far." This more action-orientated console title "has the simple and basically entertaining mechanics of Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance", since it "uses the same [game] engine", but Fallout fansite No Mutants Allowed are less forgiving about the cancellation of Fallout 3, ranting to GameSpot: "So you're comforted by the title that got a lot of good people sacked and a very promising title canned?", as they continue to present leaked pictures and team farewells from Fallout 3, as well at looks at obviously-influenced German PC RPG title The Fall: Last Days Of Gaia. -
More Rumored Fallout 3 Graphics, Details

Temple Of Elemental Evil Discussed
An anonymous reader writes "Just writing to let you guys know that UGO has an interview with Tim Cain, co-founder of Troika Games (makers of Arcanum), talking about their latest game, Dungeons And Dragons: The Temple of Elemental Evil. The game appears to be based off the popular D+D module of the same name. Cain is best known for his work on the fantastic Fallout games from Interplay." -
Fallout: Brotherhood Of Steel Impressions
John Callaham writes "HomeLAN gives its brief but hands-on impressions of Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, based on playing a build of the upcoming Interplay PS2/XBox console action game at last week's VUGames press event." There are also further impressions and screenshots of this title at Gamespot. While this new Fallout title has been vilified on Fallout fan sites for ignoring the more in-depth RPG leanings of its classic predecessors, those people who love the original PC series can at least now download the Fallout 2 editor from the Black Isle site.
