Calm down. Traffic engineers already do this.
There are services that already do this for just about every level of roads - 10 or 50 ft intervals using automated cameras on vehicle dashboards. This is previously done so that traffic engineers don't have to drive to a place to see it when they need to assess traffic changes, signals, signs, etc.
How do I know this? A contestant on PRI's "Whad'Ya Know" explained to host Michael Feldman how this was his company's job. You can listen to it here: http://www.notmuch.com/Show/ -
Re:What is the demand for this?
With this device, I don't have to download software I don't want to be able to listen to my favorite public radio show when I miss it.
I spend a lot of time on the road. Radio shows that I like are not always available where I am. I'll be looking at this a bit more closely.

It's The Greatest Thing Since...
Quoth the Editor:
This is very cool, and even though it's been around for a while, we don't seem to have run it before.
Great, does this mean a flood of stories about things that: (1) have been around forever, (2) qualify as "very cool", but (3) haven't suffered at the hands of slashdot's editorial staff?
If so, I heartily recommend sliced bread (or, things surpassing sliced bread)for the next "joy of" story...

Re: A Prarie Home Companion? BLECH.I agree with you on the All Things Considered and Morning Edition shows, but A Prarie Home Companion? I'd rather *listen* to paint dry. Try CarTalk, Michael Feldman's Whaddya Know? or This American Life. FAR SUPERIOR! And usually entertaining, which is more than I can say for that man from Lake Wobegon.
Ham on rye, hold the mayo please. -
Re:Radio is not dead in the USThe show right after Cartalk, "Whad'ya Know" at notmuch.com is really really funny... and In reply to some others on this thread, I totally love the shows they mentioned, and PHC is a variety/drama show... its a nice american/folk theme...

Jamie's Band
Charlottesville boy makes good.
Hey, everybody, since Jamie won't say all of this, I will. Our Fair Reviewer is the lead singer for the Hogwaller Ramblers, a Charlottesville, Virginia band that kicks all the ass. They play Americana type bluegrass-meets-rock-meets I dunno what. Very intelligent, fun music. I've been a fan of Jamie's for many years.
They've been featured on Whaddya Know. Hear some of their music. You can buy their eponymous album on their website.
Oh, yeah, and they're Dave Matthews favourite band. Or maybe it's the album he's waited the longest for? I don't remember. But, anyhow, there's a plug that should get you guys over to the site. :)
