Re:live stream
Octoshape has been around for a long time, sometimes colloquially referred to as octoshit. It tends to hog a lot of your upstream bandwidth. Adobe Stratus is going to be Adobe's offering in the P2P-assisted video streaming field as well.

The language of the EULA is too broad.
You said, "Why did they add this clause to the EULA?"
I don't know. The language of the EULA is too broad:
"You may not collect any information about communication in the network of computers that are operating the Software..." Presumably they know the meaning of the words. Certainly they are allowing themselves the option of being far more abusive in the future.
Remember the Sony software scandal? Judging from that, there won't be any corrections to Octoshape's bad behavior until people start demanding that the CEOs of CNN, Adobe, and Octoshape be fired.
One of the worst issues about this abuse is that Adobe is using software that is meant for updating its own products to install 3rd part software of its own choosing. -
Re:Really?
It sure does.
Half way down in section three. What is it about EULAs that, despite being universally hated and legally toothless, inspires companies to make fucking assholes of themselves when writing them?

Re:Bittorrent streaming now available
You can now stream over bittorrent. This works by prioritizing earlier segments in the file and combining the bittorrent client with the media player.

Octoshape has offered p2p streaming for a few years: http://www.octoshape.com/

Open source?
Is this open source?
There's already a closed source p2p video system that was used, among other things, for the streaming of the Blizzard WWI event (Diablo III announcement). It's called Octoshape. How does this compare?http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octoshape

Slovenia
Our national broadcaster (Radio-Television Slovenia) already provides its programme via the proprietary p2p technology called Octoshape.

Re:Is anyone else amused...that this company thinks that this company thinks that removing P2P throttling will help streaming video?
And yes, I did RTFA and saw that they're delivering streaming media via the bittorent protocol. I say it's they're own damn fault for using a protocol which is well known for huge bandwidth use and no latency requirements to deliver media with critical latency requirements. If you don't want the ISPs messing with your video stream try not making your video stream look like a file download. Actually some numbers of companies managed to do such P2P sharing for streaming audiow/video years ago and they are still doing it. It didn't break down anything and in fact actualy helped ISPs since a truely popular live Radio would have to hit 3-4 very high bandwidth IPs and distributed locally.
For example Octoshape is endorsed/used by Deutsche Welle TV, EBU

I am all for actual, pure UDP streaming with auto fallback such as Quicktime, Real but... People choose to download/stream(!) over HTTP. -
Streaming P2PI came across Octoshape a while back, through radioparadise.com. It's a P2P network designed to propagate a stream at a near live rate. It seems to be quite reliable, and is also great for streaming to other machines on a LAN. A "performance" is defined as the streaming of one song to one listener; thus a station that has an average audience of 500 listeners racks up 500 "performances" for each song it plays. I can imagine it will be difficult to apply such pricing to a system like this, if the protocol doesn't make a specific effort to contact the original source. Perhaps P2P Internet radio will become the next... well... P2P file sharing.
