OpenZaurus 3.5.1 Released
toarney writes "This is a few days old, but I just noticed that OpenZaurus 3.5.1 was released on 9/19/04. It is the first release based on the OpenEmbedded build system. You can get it in Opie or GPE Palmtop Environment flavors. Now if I could just get that 'magic bullet' program to compile on my Zaurus." -
Lycoris Shipping Linux OS For Handhelds
Bill Kendrick writes "According to LinuxDevices.com, it appears Lycoris has put together an OS for handhelds like the iPAQ and Zaurus. It's based on the Open Source OpenZaurus and OPIE projects, so it should look pretty familiar to Linux-on-PDA fans." -
OpenZaurus 3.3.5 Released
giantsfan89 writes "The OpenZaurus group announced that version 3.3.5 has been released, featuring Opie version 1.03 and kernel 2.4.18-embedix. From the new newsletter: 'As one of the few people participating on all the three above mentioned projects I recently volunteered to write regular newsletters from the inside - to keep you people informed (also to stop you from saying our projects are dead or on hibernation ;-)). We're seeking contributors, that's true - but we're aliving and kicking!' The newsletter talked about kernel improvement including 'speedups, cleanups and better power management'. Of course, OpenZaurus runs on other PDAs including the HP iPAQ, the SIEMENS SIMpad, and the M&N Ramses." -

OpenZaurus 3.2 Released
mpeg4codec writes "I was surfing around to-day and noticed that the OpenZaurus team has released OpenZaurus 3.2 Final. It's rather funny, because the ``unstable'' version still reads OpenZaurus 3.1-rc3.1. Wonder why they released this version as 3.2. They say lots of bug fixes and some new features. Check it out at the OpenZaurus web site." -
Best Zaurus Email or One-User WebMail Application?
strredwolf asks: "After upgrading my Zaurus SL-5500 to the much-better OpenZaurus 3.0 ROM, I'm left with a lack of an e-mail application that does POP. Short of compiling one up, what would folks there use with the OZ-bearing PDA? Ether a POP-capable mail app, or even a webmail system I can use Konqueror on? (And no, Yahoo! Mail doesn't work on it, even though Opera on the Sharp ROM worked well with that site)" -
Openzaurus 3.0 Released
numatrix writes "The first major stable version of OpenZaurus was released today. The 3.0 build offers the stability of the official Sharp ROMs, the freedom of open source, and a number of features the Sharp ROMs lack. Most importantly, the built-in 16MB flash ROM area of the PDA is read/write, instead of read-only as the sharp ROM uses it. A community effort, the only piece that isn't open source is the SD driver module taken from the Sharp ROM since no OS equivalent exists. The updated ROM also includes the newest version of Opie, the opensource fork of Qtopia, Trolltech's embedded version of QT, and will soon include PicoGui and X support."
