Heh, Not that funny :-)
I was going to post EXACTLY the same reply. The landscape is covered with the decaying remains of many others.
If you do want to continue, find a niche, a niche that no one has thought of (unlike Real Estate, which everyone has thought of). Maybe plumbers. Maybe sanitation engineers. It's a very competitive business, and no one could fault you for failure in this market (unless you're like Razorfish or Sapient or Verbindand just blow superbucks on luxury accomodations, then you're just retarded). -
Re:...yes...
Ok, we're talking about designers, so let's touch on the supposedly most well-known design firm there is: RazorFish. Another site that requires Flash. I'm very sure that Flash is not on the w3c standards list.

Re:There's no agreement
You know why designers use Flash? It's because it looks the same on every browser and every OS.
That's true indeed for me. More specifically, it looks like a blank white page on every browser and every OS I use. Where I work, all active content from untrusted sites is blocked for security reasons. I did the same at home because I was sick and tired of long download times, popups, weird navigation, useless rollover effects and the like. Your site doesn't work with JS, cookies, InactiveX disabled? Too bad. Remember: On the internet, the competition is just a mouse klick away. -
Re:Ugly Flash
yep Razorfish. although both will deny it.

Simple Reason...
>why did they lose funding for 2001-2002?
ArsDigita was just another fucked company e-consulting that overpaid their developers and overcharged their clients just like Organic and Razorfish. The primary difference being that at least most of the people at ArsDigita could code.
Anyway ArsDigita University was never really an "Online University that will rival MIT" but instead was part incubator and part training ground for new ArsDigita employees which was obvious from the heavy focus on web programming . Serious CS degree programs do not focues primarily on web scripting and accessing databases. This must have been soon obvious to their funders who rightfully pulled the plug. -
Re:I'm supposed to....Thanks for the link. Yikes.
I've always been partial to Philip Greenspun's philosophy of Web design. It's a classic.
Now hiring experienced client- & server-side developers

I'm supposed to....
take web color choice advice from the people who built this. Right...

Re:Interesting or Idiotic
I just took a look at the Razorfish homepage using Opera (with scripting and java enabled) and got a blank page. No error messages. No nothing.

Missed the warning signsA contract's a contract, but I find it hard to believe that the client managed to get past www.razorfish.com, which seems like an ugly, stoopid, and not-browser-friendly calling card. I just looked at it with iCab, and the top frame was nothing but dead air. A gray rectangle turned out to be an improvement over the frenetic animation, but I doubt what I saw the first time was what the "designer" intended.
Of course, razorfish gets clients using lunch with hotties, rather than its web site. Still...

Saving time & money
Uh.. Couldnt they have figured this out to begin with by just looking at theRazorFish site? I know some people like them, but those seventies color schemes just don't do it for me..
(yeah, yeah, I know my site looks like a fast food reject.. Thats the point! don't you get it? Its Iron-o-riffic!(TM)..Whatever...)
