Re:Reminds me of something...
Not as much of a difference to CueCat as you might think. The firmware on the box is signed and locked, preventing you from customizing it. Their business model doesn't have any allowance for pricing that reflects the costs of providing a Fon service (which is an issue in those parts of the world that still have volume-based pricing or volume limits on services) and also doesn't guarantee that you'll see any money out of it anyway.
obDisclaimer: I wrote Charon with a mind to specifically dealing with these issues, so I may care about them more than anyone else does...

Picturs from Bletchley, June 2006
I visited in July this year with GLUGG. Great day out. Had a fly-past too.

Working on it!
I'm working on this particular problem - mostly 'coz I'm in Australia too
:)
Charon will do micropayment-based charging for using a wireless service. If you can run on it on your wireless device (there's ipkgs available for OpenWRT at the moment) then you can share wireless on a cost-recovery (or profit-making, for that matter) basis. I have my iBurst service available to all and sundry at 4c/MB at the moment, for example.
Still early days for usability, though. -
Saw one in Central Park, New York
It looked different, so I snapped it with my EOS-300D: www.james.rcpt.to/2004/newyork/IMG_3876-p.html

The Debian Woody/Sid 2.4 Kernel RAID 1 HOWTO

Nuff said.

Do it in the OS (Linux)..
Using hdparm(1) to tune up the disks, gets a sustained 35 MByte/s reconstruction. Very good as a small-medium environment file/print/mail/proxy/dns server.

Re: Won't even install!
I have a machine with MSIE 6.00.2600.0000, and it STILL does not install. Take a look at this page I have written with a screenshot clearly showing the MSIE 6 version dialog box, and this package not wanting to install because it requires MSIE6!

Re:why no RAID?
My Debian Root RAID 1 ReiserFS + DevFS HOWTO: www.james.rcpt.to/programs/debian/raid1/. Just get two largish IDE disks, because they are cheap, and reasonably fast now days.

Re:Wish list
Some decoder rings (the ones used by libow) are supported by keymgr. Another fine feature: when forwarding your authentication agent and a remote host asks for your key, a GTK-app pops up and asks whether to give it or not. Mostly agent-forwarding is done 'in the dark', and you have no idea when your agent gives out your key.

Some pictures of Buran
These were taken when Buran was in Sydney, January 2001. The first few pictures are from Linux.conf.au 2001, the last few is when the Perth, Western Australia mob went to the exhibit in Darling Harbour. http://www.james.rcpt.to/2001/lca-2001/day5/.
