Security vulnerabilities unpatched
1st - Linux also doesn't have as high quality drivers or as many because board makers KNOW what is "running the show/market " out there, Windows - so, they cater to it immensely!
2nd - Nor does Linux have as many games, by FAR, either (this is mostly the home market in fact!)
3rd - Not only that. but Linux, in its KERNEL ONLY mind you? Has 4x the unpatched security vulnerabilities Windows 7 has (which IS a complete "distro" with all of its parts, not just a kernel only)!
4th - Despite all those "Open 'SORES'" eyes (most of whom couldn't code to SAVE THEIR LIVES mind you) allegedly poring over Linux code, how come it has that many more unpatched bugs than Windows 7 has, hmmm??
Closed source is HARDER for hacker/crackers to attack as well, because you're stuck either disassembling it (especially tough with kernel level debuggers) OR fuzzing it, either is tougher than searching out problems in Linux, which you just load into a compiler & step trace its "Open 'SORES'" code with to find screwups in security... hence it still has more security bugs, AND, they are unpatched (despite all the "Open 'SORES'" eyes poring over it, lol!)
Fact, period!
5th - In fact, Linux's kernel ALONE has 4x the # of unpatched bugs the ENTIRE SUITE/ARRAY OF WHAT MICROSOFT GIVES YOU TO DO BUSINESS & DEVELOPMENT WITH!

Re:bias?
HTML 5 offers better performance, better security, and better privacy controls (at least in theory) because it depends solely on the browser.
I'm sure it feels nice to say that, but what can you back it up with?
Performance: Most HTML 5 gaming / graphics demos I've seen peg the CPU worse than comparable Flash apps. Where are the examples that outperform Flash?
Security: In recent years, Flash has actually had fewer security vulnerabilities than most major browsers (2010, 2009).
Privacy: Flash has always given users full control over local storage ("Flash cookies"), and has made changes in the past year to make that UI easier to find. Flash also integrates with "private browsing mode." So, what privacy concerns are unique to Flash exactly?A secure browser = secure HTML 5.
Sure, but a secure Flash Player = secure Flash, too. Problem is, no software is perfect and so today we have neither secure browsers nor secure Flash. Thankfully both are moving increasingly towards a process-sandboxing model that will go a long way toward making both more secure.

Secunia PSI
http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/
I'm sure it's not unique, but I like that it does keep track of third-party programs and services - especially the seemingly purpose-built attack vector: Flash. -
Re:Welll
Use PSI https://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/
There are also several software-updaters based on repositories, but none are really good. The software landscape is just different in Windows.

Re:Never again
It's an addon/plugin/profile issue. I'd argue the last one is probably the worst because it's hard to diagnose without creating a new profile.
If you update everything (Flash/Shockwave/Java/etc. - I'd recommend Secunia's PSI to check your programs, including plugins, for updates) and it doesn't help stability, I would disable all addons and browse until you find the one causing the problem.
You may say "Why bother?". As a nerd, I enjoy addons with no comparable functionality in Chrome/Chromium and I support Mozilla. My FF7 installs work very well although I won't lie and say Firefox has been problem free (no browser has been). It may be worth examining if you liked Firefox as 7 is a good improvement over 6 even despite the development time. I don't seem to have the stability/bloat issues others complain about.
Anyhow, up to you if you want to examine it for you. In the end, whatever works for you works for you and you are either going to try to diagnose Firefox or ignore it. -

Re:What a CROCK OF CRAP (you're off)...
I'm new to Linux, and have become quite worried with Linux security.
Looking at your post, I went to the links you provided.
http://secunia.com/advisories/product/6436/?task=statistics_2011Scrolling down reveals this:
"PLEASE NOTE: The statistics provided should NOT be used to compare the overall security of products against one another. It is IMPORTANT to understand what the below comments mean when using the statistics, especially when using the statistics to compare the vulnerability aspects of different products."If you continue reading it goes goes into further detail.
Then I look at these pages

http://secunia.com/advisories/product/2719/?task=advisoriesThis supports your comment.
Can you explain this?

What a CROCK OF CRAP (you're off)...
way, Way, WAY OFF, as far as this from you:
"Since 'hackers' can't attack the installations out in the field themselves, their security is too good, they are searching for ways to poison the code that is being pushed as updates." - by Anonymous Coward on Sunday September 11, @11:58AM (#37368666)
Ahem: I strongly suggest you refer to the security vulnerabilities data below in my 'p.s.' then...
I.E.-> 4x the amount of unpatched security vulnerabilities exist in LINUX'S KERNEL ALONE (kernel ONLY mind you, & not including the rest of the bugs introduced in what goes into the rest of a Linux distro), than does in nearly the ENTIRE GAMUT/ARRAY/BODY OF WHAT MICROSOFT GIVES USERS & BUSINESSES FOR USE + DEVELOPMENT!
( LAMP? Gets shredded in attacks, & FAR MORE than Windows, IIS7, SQLServer, VB/C# etc. in dev. tools BY FAR!)
---
"Breaking into the centralized distribution is the first step in this process." - by Anonymous Coward on Sunday September 11, @11:58AM (#37368666)
In case you hadn't noticed above per this article's topic? It's BEEN broken & for a LONG TIME NOW!
APK
P.S.=> This data from respected & reputable sources ought to interest you as well, vs. your statements:
Linux, in its KERNEL ONLY mind you? Has 3.5x the unpatched security vulnerabilities Windows 7 has & 4x that of Windows Server 2008 (which IS a complete "distro" with all of its parts, not just a kernel only as is in the case of LINUX's stats below...)!
5th - In fact, AGAIN: Linux's kernel ALONE has 3.5x-4x the # of unpatched bugs the ENTIRE SUITE/ARRAY OF WHAT MICROSOFT GIVES YOU TO DO BUSINESS & DEVELOPMENT WITH!
Proof? Ok:

Ah yes... yet again the "LAMP CAMP" shows its "True Colors" with MORE UNPATCHED SECURITY BUGS! Yet another "Win" (not), eh??

WHAT'S THIS? YET ANOTHER "LEAD" (lol, in unpatched security bugs) for the "LAMP CAMP"??
Another "100% lead" (loss is more like it) no less, vs. MS Visual Studio 2010 or Office 2010 (& their attendant XML, browsers in IE9 even, & MORE - per my earlier posts!)

(Say it ain't so... too bad though, secunia.com says & SHOWS otherwise, all current versions too, & "Apples-to-Apples" in DB, OS, WebServer, & Programming tools/languages etc.- et al).

P.S.=> NOW, AS TO THE REST OF YOUR OFF TOPIC TROLLING B.S.? Here goes, for "posterities' sake", troll!
#1 - You're "speaking for everyone here" & on "writing style", which I severely DOUBT you're qualified professionally OR academically in (some critique from you - thenon PHD in English AC on your part, right? Yes, I am correct in that much, I am fairly certain!).
#2 - Argue with the initial post source, NOT myself (though it seemed to be from a credible enough source, & certainly MORE CREDIBLE than yourself!).
#3 - Seems the statistics from SECUNIA.COM show that Linux's mainstream 2.6x KERNEL ALONE has more unpatched security bugs in it than NEARLY ALL OF WHAT MICROSOFT PUTS OUT...
(Certainly more than an "Apples-to-Apples" comparison of IIS to Apache, SQLServer to MySQL, VisualStudio &/or MSOffice to PHP, and CERTAINLY Operating Systems to Operating Systems (Windows Server 2008 vs. Linux's KERNEL ONLY, lol!)).
* EVER HEARD THE OLD ADAGE "ARGUE WITH THE NUMBERS"?
(Clearly, that's the case here - see the stats above & from my earlier posts too in comparison!)
Yes, YOU, like all my other "naysayers" certainly weren't willing to post the MySQL, PHP, & Apache flaws I challenged you to do from SECUNIA.COM, so I did (gee, I wonder WHY (not) you wouldn't! Yea, right!)
Plus, I already put out the foundation OS' unpatched security issues (& it's 4:1 in Microsoft's favor easily across nearly their ENTIRE ARRAY OF OFFERINGS, vs. the Linux Kernel alone & as I said? The rest of LAMP only "compounds the issue" more, worse, for "The LAMP CAMP", period!)

Don't argue with ME, argue with the report in my 1st post you replied to, AND THE STATS POSTED FROM A REPUTABLE & RELIABLE SITE FOR UNPATCHED SECURITY VULNERABILITIES!
"m'kay"?
Oh, & "while you're @ it"? Why don't you post the vulnerabilities unpatched counts for MySQL, PHP, & Apache while you're @ it so we can "compare notes" from SECUNIA's data? Or, do I have to now too?? I already did with the Linux 2.6x series kernel alone showing 4x the amount of unpatched secur

According to SECUNIA? You're WRONG!
Seems IIS 7, Windows Server 2008, SQLServer 2008, & Visual Studio 2010 (& more that comes from MS that has to do with online development) show only 4 unpatched security vulnerabilities...
* That's 4x LESS THAN THE LINUX KERNEL ALONE, mind you...!
