Photosynth Gets a Little Competition
andres32a writes "Using existing open-source Structure From Motion Libraries and incorporating a WebGL pointcloud viewer, we have created a new website called 3dtubeme.com that allows users to create and share on the web amazing 3d models using virtually any digital camera. Point clouds are dramatically denser than Photosynth, and best of all... it works on any WebGL browser!" -

ConceptDog asks: "Co-Founder and current Director of Red Hat, Bob Young, is going to be conducting a presentation at my school. In addition to his presentation, there will be a question and answer session. Considering that my school is rather small (less than 3000 students at my campus), there is a good chance that I might be able to ask a question of Mr. Young. So I'd really like the Slashdot community's help in coming up with a good question to ask. If I get an answer, I'll post what it is, here." -

Personal Shark Repellant
Ahab writes "Now if only Robert Shaw had had one of these... Reuters is running this thinly-veiled press release about a personal anti-shark unit. The unit creates an electric field around the swimmer that only affects sharks. The smallest unit repels sharks at a distance of about 6 to 9 feet, and will retail for $240."
