OSWG: Not just documentation
From the OSWG Mission Statement:
2.5. Promoting Open-Source and Open-Content Documentation Projects
2.6. Providing an Open-Source Documentation News and Announcements ResourceIt's inarguably that Linux needs a lot of good PR these days, especially when you continually see articles such as the recent one in Silicon.com. And while the public is starting to hear more positive stories about Linux, most of these are from the for-profit entities such as RedHat or VA Linux. And those are, naturally, oriented to highlight their latest endeavour or product.
How much effort does OSWG spend on press releases, seeding news stories, and offering rebuttals to erronous reports? Has the group ever been solicited for an opinion by a news agency?

Ooops
I'm sorry, I though it was obvious that this was a joke. It probably is to people who have read the topic ripping the quoted article to pieces but I should have tried to make it more obvious in the post.
Take a look at this fairly representative sample of that thread if you don't believe me -> I want a piece of this action.
The original Silicon article (for those who need to see an ill-informed and hysterical mess) is Here.
I guess I should leave being funny to the professionals -
Re:Accessing the video
Or if you're stuck with a 28.8 like me, this is the low-bandwidth version of the interview.

The video location
You can get it at http://www.silicon.com/html/2_ desktop200599sl.rm.ram
At least, I think that's it. I got the new version of RealAudio, but when I go to play stuff, it just makes a lot of noise. Only when I have the volume setting down to the lowest notch do I get something vaguely resembling speech (still quite staticky). Anyone else have this problem? -
Accessing the video
I forgot to mention that I discovered some hoops you have to jump through to watch. First you have to login (user/pass = cypherpunk/cypherpunk worked for me). Then there's getting the funky javascript link to work. Here's the URL I had to hack together to make it work at 128K.

List of URLs for the ESR interview
Here are the URLs for the silicon.com interview with ESR, painstakingly extracted from the HTML. It's only 4:55 long, just a telephone interview, no video of ESR.

The extra bits that Our Fearless Leader left out.
3Com don't exactly ignore Linux at the moment, but it will be nice if they confirm this story with a press release. Also on that site is an interview with Martin Butler (a well-known UK Linux basher/FUD-flinger/agent of influence for M$) entitled Lambasting Linux. I've got to admit that I'm actually beginning to look forward to this guy's comments - he's continually predicting Bad Things for Linux and of all the things he's said over the last year, the exact opposite has happened. Keep up the good work, Butler!
:-)

check out the interview with Martin Butler ...... of the Butler Group repeating the FUD from a while back. The FUD is getting thick folks, very thick. It looks like DH Brown and Butler are outdoing even Gartner these days. I wonder how much Micros~1 is paying them. If you missed it, it's here. Unfortunately, you'll probaby need Real Player G2 to look at it.
Noteable quotes:
- "Linux has no value as a technology in its own right"
- "Linux came about because of a need for an alternative to windows"
- "Linux is incoherent"
