That's good.
I liked altavista back when they were just a damn good search engine, and not a cheesy portal site. If I wanted a cheesy portal site, I'd go to "Yahoo!".
At least Google has managed to handle everything tastefully so far; I definitely respect them more for it. Heck, they don't even have banner ads, unlike some other sites...

Re:Slashdot imposters!
And don't forget, thanks to MEEPT, the one and only slaspdash... I remember asking about why it wasn't storing login info after the last server change on slashcode, and noone seemed to know about it... appasrently someone in London registered it.

In that case...
Isn't the Weekly World that actually uses real news stories from other sources, publishes doctored photos, and incites rumormongering, all without fact checking? I think that would be a better analogy, if only slapdash had a page 5 girl.

Re:What's the point?
Wrong. If what you claim were true, I should be able to find at least one reference to slashdot.com on the main page (in the HTML, that is), but they are all links to pages on slashdot.org. Also, by your logic, the very existence of slapdash.org proves that it is the true site, and the others exist only for compatibility reasons.

Re:Headline: Microsoft Responsible for DDoSing /.
There's nothing wrong with slashdot. Its a denial of service attack. Try slapdash.org and then tell me if slashdot is down. Put those numbers in your
/etc/hosts while slashdot is being /.ed. -
Re:Stock Market Coverage
"I totally agree that discussions about the stock market in general do not belong on Slashdot."
That is true, however the topic icon for this story is the almighty buck, I'm betting that everyone who really has a problem with their blood pressure whenever they open up Slapdash and see stock/IPO news can go into their preferences and fix it so they don't. Slashdot is made up of more than one type of nerd, and a lot of them have stock options and/or can afford to buy stock or are simply concerned for no good reason. I would go as far as to say that I think a majority of the "money" articles do not deserve to make the front page, I would prefer to see more YRO stories and science, etc. But then again there are those who whinge on every YRO story that we don't need to hear about every lawsuit either...
Taco, go have a beer on us or something, and get back to your conspiracy:-) It's been boring since we all started browsing at +1 by default:^)
