Re:Maybe the Tablets Bundled With 3G or Psuedo 4G
http://www.eletroworld.cn/ is the actual main distributor for http://en.smartdevices.com.cn/Buy/ in China. I've never had any problems with orders from them.
http://hotmid.com/ is in US if that is less scary.

Re:Such an Odd Product
There are already a few 7" tablets out there. The SmartQ R7 is the same size, and boots Ubuntu, Wince, or Android, but it has an older processor and lower other specs. They do compare favourably on price though - about £100, which puts them in the 'quite annoyed if I lose or break it' category (the cheapest iPad is about four times the price). I'm more tempted by their 5" version though - it's small enough to fit in a coat pocket, but powerful enough to be useful.

Re:Is there even a prototype?
SmartQ V7 is available for around $270 on eBay.

Re:SmartQ v7
Ugh, replying to myself, but I put the wrong link... SmartQ has a lovely product naming convention; they've got a SmartQ 7 and a SmartQ V7, two different products.
http://en.smartdevices.com.cn/Products/V7/200912/04-40.html is the V7's spec sheet, which is what I meant to link.

SmartQ v7
If you're not opposed to Chinese made, check out the SmartQ V7 : http://en.smartdevices.com.cn/Products/SmartQ7/200905/27-3.html.
Also, http://www.mobileread.com/ is a focused e-reader forum.

Re:Christ, AGAIN!?
Here's one (and I have the SmartQ7 model): http://www.smartdevices.com.cn/ Nice and cheap.
And if these get blister packed as MID/PDA/PMP devices for around $/£100 they will fly of the shelves. I'd happily pay about £150-200 for the model you linked to based on the assumption of it being a pocket sized competent media player with a few extra features. Even if the OS was in ROM..

Where to purchase: http://en.smartdevices.com.cn/Buy/
I'm not in China, Singapore, or "Hongkong".
Sorry. I should have specified "in the US." How about this: when I can get one at Best Buy, THEN post the story.

By 'People' I mean the people from mainland China
Sorry I didn't make it clear in previous post.
I'm not sure what this 'no WiFi' thing is aiming at but be honest 802.11-capable gears have been pretty common in China. For example these 'Shanzhai' internet tablets* support 802.11b/g and I haven't seen any mention of WAPI.
* ARM11 running Linux and costs less than US$150, nice toy. -
Have a look at the Smartdevices SmartQ 7
http://en.smartdevices.com.cn/index.html
http://detail.zol.com.cn/mp3_player/index191957.shtml
It looks very cool. 1100RMB == 200US$
It runs ubuntu linux.I also tried the Gemei x760 which mentioned that it was an ebook reader but it was a bit misleading. It reads text files, but even that is a bit of a stretch considering I threw a 1MB text file at it and it said it was too big to read. Considering it was the english/chinese mdbg.net dictionary text file I wanted to read, I can actually not recommend the gemei x760 as an ebook reader, but it's an awesome gba game console/mp4 player.
