I think the primary reason is that for real efficiency - in other words, to get something actually out the damn door - it is always faster/better to have a small dedicated team of programmers.

Nothing changes the fact that Kconq has now what Mozilla might have in a few months if they ever get it stable. Adding in the problems of internal politics and their choice is pretty smart.

I'm from Kiev originally and attended there his "Softpanorama" seminars, almost ten years ago. That was great, really great... even comparing to seminars and conferences I participate now, being in Silicon Valley.
