Re:FreeOTFE
TrueCrypt gets better and better...
We recommend it to our clients for securing their synchronised laptops. -
Re:Disgusting
I agree with that. Most of the people who get hit by botnets have no real security at all (as I cite in my blog summary). But then how does one confirm the users are running firewalls? Port-scan them?
Why don't ISPs just block all ports except 80 and 443, unless the user requests otherwise? Make it easy to unblock the ports.
Alternatively, they could do what Easynet UK did for the Nyxem virus and contact users whose machines were sending/receiving traffic matching the Nyxem profile. -

Re:Yes, please.
The paypal sucks website has some scary stories (perhaps they should manage them with our service?!). However, for many sites, Paypal just makes the most sense financially.

Re:what we need for compliant browsers
While it is true PNG support in IE is not very good, there are lots of workarounds to get useful results.
Take a look at PNG blog entry where I linked to a page describing how to use transparent PNGs as backgrounds &c. -
Re:Why SQL?
Indeed!
mbox and maildir have been around for a long time; they have been designed by experts to store mail which is a very different problem to storing hierarchical column data. You could make the argument that all email conversations are hierarchical, but...
Personally, I have every email for about the last ten years in maildirs; I know that so long as my data is kept safe and secure, I will be able to read the emails in ten years' time.
There was even an application featured in a Linux magazine a couple of months ago about various simple scripts which will give you a pretty HTML index of your maildirs/mboxes. -
Re:Thanks, Cisco....
This will perhaps also make people realise that switches, routers and firewalls are no substitute for real security.
