Re:wow, amazing...
- IMO, The Star Wars Crap Made Out of Legos is clearly some of the most interesting and best made of the new generation of Star Wars Crap.
- The mark of a good operating system is not "tight code" but "tight design." What follows is a list of design points, with OSes having interesting solutions in parentheses where relevant.
- Does the kernel manage system resources properly? [Win9x and MacOS What security model does the kernel present? [EROS]
- Does the kernel manage time well? N.B. "Time" means both "latencies" as well as "handing events and doing work over time." [BeOS]
- What namespace abstraction is presented to software in a system and/or to a user of a system? [Plan 9, Lifestreams]
And the list goes on... but this should get the idea across. While this system may be free, what does it offer that the community needs? - Does the kernel manage system resources properly? [Win9x and MacOS What security model does the kernel present? [EROS]

Re:privacy
Well, Steve Mann does

PPPoEMost cable modems today are just ethernet, just like most xDSL connections. That's likely to change over time; ISPs like the authentication capabilities of PPPoE (PPP over Ethernet, RFC 2516 and are likely to switch over time.
Fortunately, Linux support for PPPoE is coming along -- there is a beta-test version of a user-space "redirector" that provides PPPoE support for Linux 2.2.x, and in-kernel support is being written for 2.{3,4}.x; while it may well not be added to Linus's standard kernel, it should not be hard to add.
This is on-topic inasmuch as it relates to the future ability of Linux users to use cable modem and similar (xDSL) services...

Professor Mann is a freak
I went to U of T, and just graduated from there with an electrical engineering degree. Professor Mann is a freak, plain and simple. He's incapable of interacting normally with human beings. Just look at his web page -- you'll see what I mean!

Some Neural Network Sources
- University of Toronto Neural Network Group has some software which fits the Open Source model.
- University of Stuttgart has a neural network simulator. Source is available, its GPL.
- Pacific Northwest National Laboratory has a slew of links to free/share ware. No idea if any of it is Open Source.
- Karsten Kutza maintains Neural Networks at Your Fingertips.
I got all of these off of Google. Try entering 'neural network' as a search term and seeing what hits you get.
I may have some old notes, papers and source code on them in that area of maximized entropy I call my apartment. If I can find anything I'll post them and GPL everything. - University of Toronto Neural Network Group has some software which fits the Open Source model.

Persoanlly I think Steve Mann's is better.
Likely much better funded too...
