University Capitulates, Switches Off Spam Filters
Heraklit writes "As reported on German news site Heise, the system administrators of the Technical University of Braunschweig have temporarily given up the fight against spam. Because of the legal obligation to deliver all mail and of the delay time exceeding critical 5 days(!), they decided to switch off all filter mechanisms. Before, the 20 servers dedicated to processing e-mail alone had been breaking down under a load of 100000 unprocessed mail messages, ca. 98% of which had been spam or viruses. ... Tilt Sensors For Palm Pilots
lowlevel writes: "This site has been updated with plans for a 'dongle' version of the tilt sensor hack, which does not require you to modify your palm pilot. There is new code/drivers as well. (Note: there is a color beta version, too!) " -

Add a tilt sensor to your PalmPilot
Dan Wineman writes "Here are instructions for enabling your Pilot to sense gravity and acceleration. You need a steady hand with a soldering iron, and it definitely voids anything resembling a warranty, but imagine the possibilities! There's already an Oxyd clone (like 2-D Marble Madness) that supports it, and I suppose a pedometer application might be doable. Remember, never ask a geek "why"; just nod your head and back away slowly... "
