Nerds 2.01 Coming Nov 25th to PBS
echo writes "Robert Cringely's original "Triumph of the Nerds" was an excellent history of the personal computer. Well, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer here on November 25th "Nerds 2.01: A Brief History of the Internet" will air. Also airing next Monday on PBS will be another Cringely special on Digital TV. I'm sure not going to miss either one of these if they hold up to the same standard that TOTN did." No kidding- the original was pretty darn cool. I hope PBS airs the original again soon- I always seem to miss the first part. Any readers got tapes they could send me? *beg* *beg* PBS should make them available as RealVideo. I'll definately try to watch the new version, I suspect most of you ought to as well. -
Yet Another Project Heresy Report
echo writes "On C-NET's Project Heresy yesterday Dan Shafer and Brian Cooley talked about where they think Linux needs to go in the future. In particular, they seem to think that the command line should be totally hidden, that the notion of multi-user should go away, and that programs shouldn't have "modes". At least for "regular" users. Here's the site. What do you think? " I agree that these things should be hidden from the novices, but making multi user go away? Yeah, right. update: (S) Apparently the guys at Project Heresy tried to contribute to the discussion but failed. This is what they had to say. -
Couple of Quickees
As per my norm, here is a few tidbits worth checking out: Mike Baker mentioned his Root Tail program which allows you to do some spiffy stuff on your root window with syslogs and stuff. Second we have A Sysadmins Journal from the Future written by Bart Dorsey. It's worth a read, and a wish *grin*. Updates Couple More: Trae warned us that Themes.org has it's second Guest Tile up:Raster's! And We also have a parody of ESR's CatB by Martin Hock , called, well *ahem* The Circus Midget and the Fossilized Dinosaur Turd. Read carefully.
