Re:I wouldn't buy one
If this came out, you would buy one. The improvement in color would completely make up for the lack of darkness. Right now, we have all gotten used to the RGB displays we have now, so we don't even notice how pathetic our monitors are when it comes to color. Sometime, try taking a picture of a sunset, then come in immediately and put it on your computer so you can compare the two. The difference is literally just night and day (have you ever noticed that when people say "no pun intended" it is usually a lie?).

Re:Use for non-organic manipulation
Check out the pictures, man. While I see you have a point, if I were missing a hand, I would be totally overjoyed to get one of these. There is a picture of a person using a blackberry. It is sensitive enough to pick up a Styrofoam cup without crushing it. Sure there MIGHT be some weird defect that MIGHT make it go crazy and MIGHT get someone hurt, but I've had weird defects where I accidentally slammed the door in my brother's face. He got pretty hurt. By and large this is a massive improvement, especially since there were already other bionic hands (not nearly as good) available which could potentially have the same problem. Of course I know you were just being a good engineer and looking for the drawbacks, but I thought I'd throw in my two cents.

cool picture, a long way off
This technology is still a long way off. As you can see from this picture, where a magnet is held to the right, causing the substance to change from brown to blue, the resolution and control still isn't very good. If this works though, suddenly we will have much more brilliantly colorful displays, with every color available. Imagine fluorescent orange on your display.....and, since it works by reflection, putting it in bright daylight will only make it more brilliant.
Also, they are talking about using it for liquid paper, but I'm not sure how they are planning on doing that, since once the magnetic field is removed, the picture disappears.
In any case, if the pitfalls in the technology could be overcome, it would be a vast improvement over what we have today. Big if.

This is great stuff
The first thing I wondered was, what on earth do the lawyers do that cost this much? First she requested $55,000 for lawyer fees, which the court gave her. The RIAA complained that it wasn't reasonable, and of course since her lawyer had to work extra to deal with that request, they raised the bill to $114K. This includes $225/hr for the lawyer, $100/hr for the paralegals, and 8 cents a page for copies. Apparently the court thought this was a bit high because they reduced it down to $68,685.23. Still, I'm sure it's quite a win for the lawyer.

From the articleOn Napoleon's Russian campaign, his surgeon general noticed that wounded infantrymen, left on the snowy ground to recover, had better survival rates than officers who stayed warm near the campfire. On Napolean's Russian campaign, wounded, left on the snowy ground......I think I'd rather die.
