Debian Package of the Day
flok writes "The Debian project has started a new webpage: the 'Debian package of the day.' It does what it says — every day another package from the Debian repository is posted with an elaborate description and some nice screenshots. As Debian (and all the other distributions as well) contains way too many packages for it to be feasible to inspect all of them yourself, this is then a nice way of learning about all kinds interesting software packages." -
NTP Pool Project Reaches 500 Servers
flok writes "Finally after 3 years the NTP Pool project has reached 500 servers! The NTP pool project tries to be an accurate and free time-source to every internet-connected device. Everybody who's system has running an NTP daemon which can give an accurate time-indication can join the project. Not only is it handy to have accurate time on your workstation to be able to see when you need to leave the house to catch the train in time, it is also usefull to be able to accurately correlate events between your system and others in case one gets hacked." -
Bayesian Tail
flok writes "We all know anti-spam-software using Bayesian filtering. The results with these are amazingly good. So that made me thinking: why not create a tool which monitors logfiles and determines using a Bayesian filter what events to display and what not? That's why I created btail. Btail is just that: it monitors a logfile and filters it with a Bayesian filter. The results are above my own expectations!" -
Set Your Clocks With Pooled NTP Servers
flok writes "Since we all want to have the time correctly set on our servers we all want to synchronize to some ntp-server. Not everyone has such an NTP server available, so that is why www.pool.ntp.org was started. If your server is synced to some discrete timesource like GPS or something like that you can also join the group to help this initiative!"
