Everyone's a criminal.
"There are many more laws than can possibly be enforced by, or even known to, our ever-growing army of cops, judges, lawyers, and lowly citizens. This isn't an accident of the system run amok, it's the way the government WANTS it. There are at least two reasons for this:
One, the more laws there are to be broken (and the more obscure, the better ) the greater the stream of revenue from fines and violations and the more government jobs there are (cops, health inspectors, banking commissioners, etc.) in enforcing these laws and processing both the violators and the revenues.
Secondly, the fact that since there are probably 1,000 times more laws on the books than are known to the citizenry all but ensures that everyone's guilty of something. And in the government's eyes, it's good that virtually everyone is a criminal of one type or another. Here's why: Because if you ever challenge any part of the government; the Housing Department, the Board of Education, the Bureau of Licensing and Regulation, the Election Board, the DNR, the DMV, the BLM, or whatever, it'll be able to find something, maybe many things, you're guilty of.
And that, my friends, is its insurance policy against you. If you raise a stink about anything, no matter how legitimate, the full force and power of the government could be channeled into crawling up your wazoo with a microscope to find out everything you've ever done wrong and then using those transgressions to either discredit you or to bully you into staying mum about whatever gripe you've got or scandal you could expose. It's nothing but a racket. Blackmail. A seedy bastardization of the "checks and balances" system your nation's founders envisioned and engineered to protect you from governmental abuses".

Let's call terrorists 'Hackers'!
Why not, it would make as much sense (except it doesn't serve a current political agenda).
If you want to read what actual anarchists think, try here.
Personally, I think it's a stupid term, but there are some who cling to it.

Re:Offshore Oil Services
These wouldn't be bad places to live, unless it's too close to the cesspool that is L.A.
Actually LA itself is a major producer of oil in the US. LA has oil wells all over the city and surrounding area.
Africa isn't exactly a safe place to live. Latin America... depends which country. Brazil would probably be ok, Venezuela or Columbia would be a bad idea.
Like Latin America, there are good places and bad places to live in Africa. Personally I'm hoping to go to Brazil in a few years.
Australia would be ok, but East Timor would definitely not considering what happened there recently.
It's better in East Timor than it was fro 1975 to after independence in the late '90s. However as far as oil drilling is concerned right now Australia controls almost all of the Timor Gap oil. This is from when Indonesia ruled East Timor they signed an agreement with Australia. East Timorese are fighting the agreement though.
Basically, my point here is that, for offshore drilling, in the near future, a career here will take you to far-away and possibly highly unsafe places, not places where you'd want to bring your family.
And my point was that not all of the oil drilling is in the Gulf of Mexico, irrespective of safety.

Cancer Cure?
Who wants a cancer cure these days?
Cancer is a fantastic business that is making the big pharmaceutical companies and the government ludicrous profits. The chances are that if there was an amazing cure out there, we would hear very little of it. There is a strong conflict of interest regarding the cure of the most common and deadly diseases.
Maybe this breakthrough discovery has made it this far precisely because it is not going to cure cancer so easily (and definitely not cheaply) after all. Helping the delivery of chemotherapy drugs is just another way of continuing to sell these drugs.

CERA Report debunked in detail.I was actually reading the debunking of the CERA report a couple of hours before I checked
/. for the evening. It is an interesting read and well worth the time. I just love this site's name ;-) From the article:I happen to know that the organizers of the recent meeting of the U.S. chapter of the Association for the Study of Peak Oil & Gas (ASPO), conveniently held in Boston, sent invitations to the principals of CERA, whose offices are just up the road from the ASPO convention site at Boston University. The invitations politely asked CERA to send representatives to attend and participate in the ASPO discussions. However, to the best of my knowledge, no one from CERA attended the ASPO event (I have seen a list of registered attendees) and no CERA spokesperson took advantage of the occasion to address the room full of 500 ASPO conference attendees. I wonder why not? Didn't get the invitation?
My Attitude is that if you feel strongly about someting then you should be able to debate your position. Apparently the CERA cannot.Skip over the incessant advertising in the article.

Re:I wonder...
Not very long:

Unfortunately the study costs over $1000, so it will be some time before a full debunking is finished. Someone has to go buy the damn thing.
