Macromedia releasing source to Flash player
yoz writes "Macromedia says it will release the source code to the Flash player when Flash 4 comes out in June, according to this press release. However, it's unlikely to be an Open Source license. " -
Amazon vs Barnes & Noble Descends into Silliness
Yoz sent us a series of press releases that you'll find amusing. It starts with A statement from Amazon about B&N acquiring the Ingram Book Group. Barnes and Nobles then responded, shooting down Amazons initial statement. Finally Amazon finishes it off with the most efficient press release I've ever seen. What a world. -
PalmPilot News
Michael Heldebrant writes "New OS upgrades for Palm Pilots: 3.0.1 and 2.0.5 downloadable at PilotGear and officially from Palmpilot.com. changelist is on the html pages, mostly PPP fixes. " Possibly even more interesting is a story that Yoz sent us. He says. "Cool news for people wanting to do serious DB stuff for everyone's favourite PDA... it's only 150k, there's a Java API to it, and it'll be out within the next couple of weeks." -
Sendmail Inc.
Yoz was the first of dozens to write in to tell us that Eric Allman, creator of sendmail, has opened Sendmail Inc. to sell commercial versions of Sendmail. The source will obviously still be available to everyone, you just pay for support. I love seeing all these companies being built on Open Source. It's really happening guys! Read more at news.com. -
Worthwhile Web Site
Yoz writes " Need To Know Now is described as "the weekly high-tech sarcastic update for the UK" but it's of relevance to all slashdot readers as it mostly covers worldwide news, it's written by geeks for geeks and it's very funny. Plus, it's linked to slashdot.org a couple of times recently, so there's obviously good taste at work here. You can subscribe to the mailshot or read all the issues at the website." I frequent the website myself actually. They misquoted me in their current issue though- I never "demanded" that Motif get set free. Why would I need a free motif when GTK is so cool and the source to Netscape will be here soon?
