I thought I would point one more
thing out

There is an extra slot to the right of the AGP slot, I have the area circled
in white. Quick question for the /. crowd, how many other people out there
have a case with an unusable slot on the right like me?? Seems to make
perfect sense to put the fan there doesn't it?

I thought I'd take a
picture and make a rebuttal to your statement. Gotta love digital.

You will notice on the asus board I put a tape measure across as a reference.
Now out of the 5 boards sampled, only 1 has no space for heatsinks on the right
side. Also to note this board is a slot1, which is no longer in production.

On the other hand, every single semi modern board in this picture has more
than adequate room for heatsinks on the right side.

So unless these newer cards are going into an outdated system, putting the
fans/heatsinks on the right side shouldn't be a problem right? Simple enough
solution without having to resort to heat pipes/water cooling or peizo electric
cooling.

I've dealt with handling different media types over the years on my website
over the years. The worst and I mean the worst part about it is you always have to triplicate or quadricate your work because if you leave any kind of browser or platform out whines will be a calling from the peanut gallery.

Years ago we used real, but then real started bloating the crap outta their player with nagging popups and BSOD, so people started wanting windows media more, since it was installed in the OS and didn't require a seperate download. Problem is, most people in the publishing industry use macs, so we had to do quicktime too. Right now anytime the boss says "Do some digital video" I go "Ugggh!" because I have to do work to deliver to 4 different platform.

Which is why this statement caught my eye..

I've been using linux lately for both firewire and BT878 capture, and although the editing tools don't compare to premiere or virtual dub, the reliability of the capture is so much better than it was in windows, I can't look back. Helix looks to be an alternative to getting a lot of work done all at once, instead of application hopping. (Which sucks)

I see Helix doing well, i'm going to fuck around with it today if I can. Anything that gives me more time for pr0n and counterstrike is priceless.

Finally, did someone appoint you the arbiter of who is a "true artist"? Give me a break.

Actually, I write for a local music magazine.
I've watched many talented artist that should have gone somewhere in this
industry sit and idle because to the top players in the industry it's all about
the Benjamin's.

Music, not money should be the motivation for forming a band. The people
that do it for the money will never sit around experimenting with new sounds
because they fear it might hurt the sale of a record.

A true artist doesn't care about if they make money or not, they have a song
in their heart and they want it to be heard. They won't sit there singing
"Oops I did it again" a million times over because it's popular.
Sad truth is most of the stuff that comes out of the RIAA camp falls into this
category of cookie cutter artists that make sales based on their image or the
power of their label to promote them. A good artist does not need these things,
they will sell their music on the basis that it is good music that people like
to listen to over and over again. Some of the best artists give the
listener something to relate to, an emotion, a story, that keeps you captivated
till you just want to hear that song over and over..

My last 6 months have been spent learning how to properly maintain and shoot a firearm, hand to hand combat techniques, running my ass off up and downhill in high altitude and heat. Most of our training has been supervised by an ex Vietnam veteran because we wanted to learn the right way, not the counterstrike way.

In addition to all the combat training, we're stockpiling our camp with lots of beans, rice, anything that has a good shelf life. Our own water supply not tied in with any major city water. We have gas masks for chemical attacks and plenty of antibiotics for any biological attacks (might help) . Everything we need to survive if the shit hits our soil, and everything we need to know if we get rushed through training if we end up getting drafted.

People don't realize the invading force may not be bin laden, the Chinese have had their finger on the button for years. All it would take is a little political terrorism to shake up Chinese US relations and its going to be full scale war on our turf for the first time since the 1700's

This is a open warning to any terrorist in the bay area, we're doing this militia thing the right way, you cannot screw things up here any worse than what the land grabs did to the orchards. I'm not a part of this new slashdot crowd, I dislike them with my dying breath for what my home has become, for turning the valley of hearts delights from thriving farm land into a swirling cesspool of people, freeways, and superfund toxic waste cleanup sites. All the little cocky fucks that moved here for money then moved out when the gold rush left are the true lamers. As much as I disagree with what has happened, it's life, it's the way America works (i.e. a majority said lets fuck up the valley) . So I am in a way connected with these people, and I will defend them.

You have pissed us off more than you will ever know. You pissed me off enough to quit smoking so I can chase you better. I can nail one of your men at 300 yards now without a scope and I keep getting better every week. Don't fuck with the old boys club bin laden, you may think you've poisoned the minds of many young Americans, but some of us still see this country for what it really represents. Freedom.
