Zoot on Windows
James Fallows from The Atlantic magazine writes periodically about these kinds of software programs, everything from the ancient Lotus Agenda to many of the programs mentioned above. One very powerful tool that appears to be missing from my skimming through the posts is Zoot! (only on Windows) - soon to be Zoot-XT in July: http://www.zootsoftware.com/index.html

Zoot http://www.zootsoftware.com/ may meet your needs.

Consider Full-Fledged PIMs like ZootThere are some very interesting pieces of software out there that combine task management with personal information databases -- places to store bits of information collected from documents, web pages, and so on. Some go far beyond the information organizing capabilities of Outlook and other standard personal information managers (PIMs).
One such piece of software is a cult-hit, Zoot. See reviews here and here. Find out more at the Yahoo Group for it, which also happens to have excellent lists of other excellent but often underappreciated PIM software.
Also consider web-based task managers like Yahoo Calendar. The advantage is that they are easily accessible from anywhere and there's no need for backups. Yahoo task management also syncs with a lot of other stuff, I think.

Zoot it
I'm evaluating Zoot for broadly similar reasons.
Zoot Software
From their Web site:
"Information can originate from many sources, e-mail, the Web, CD-ROM, to name a few. This information must be reviewed and labeled in order to make it readily available for future reference. Zoot lets you quickly collect, review and label information while working directly with the information source, whether it's a Web browser, E-mail client, Word Processor or any other Windows application."
So far, so good, but I can't help escaping the feeling that the product has been neglected for some years prior to the recent release. The UI takes some getting used to, but most of that is unlearning the idioms of Windows files and folders. -
Zoot
For Windows users, an option I have looked at the past (but admittedly never tried out; trialing The Brain sent me off on a tangent...) is Zoot, a type of "Information Management Software". It is essentially a large relational database into which you can store and organize almost any type of document, email, URL, etc.
The only thing I'm a bit worried about is the last release version appears to have been released in 2000; nonetheless, the software continues winning awards. They have a free trial version available if you want to give it a spin. -

Re:Lifestreams is very coolHave you ever tried the product at zootsoftware.com ? It is apparently a similar concept, but probably doesn't go nuts on the interface ideas like Gelertner, and also unfortunately runs only windows.
Also, do you know of anyone who has tried to use the google product for this ? I think of all of these things as "having a personal google".
P.S. I liked your book on learning to program in scheme using AI examples. I have actually purchased three copies, and given them to young programmers of the high school age.

Re:Agenda was the sweetest PIM in history...I still have my disks too, and the manuals. Nothing like typing "Meet w/Laura tomorrow re: Project X" and having it automatically file entries on tomorrow's calendar page, and in Laura and Project X files. (or "next Thursday," etc.)
Have you tried the shareware Zoot? James Fallows was an Agenda fan, and he was raving about Zoot five years ago in the Atlantic Monthly and elsewhere. Cold shower, Jimbo!

Agenda migration, and ZootCorrect
... I was a happily licensed Agenda owner until Lotus wrote us and told us that while they were killing Agenda, they would give us a discount on Lotus Organizer. That is *not* a real migration path. Well, maybe to them ... then they could move me to Notes later ...And contrary to other posts, while Agenda is *freely downloadable* I don't think it's actually licensed for free and unfettered use. Though I don't know why it wouldn't since the DOS disks, if they could be found out there, couldn't bring more than a few dollars in sale.
Try Zoot, a Windows app with Agenda-like association. (At least go for the developer's sense of humor.) The learning curve is steep, so maybe Kapor's program will make this technology finally friendly.
