What OS Does InfoGear's iPhone Use?

taracta asks: " Does anyone know the operating system for the iPhone from Infogear? I am trying to find out if it is possible to improve its Java capabilities. It is an extremely good Internet appliance and my computer illiterate girlfriend uses it exclusively. With its touch screen it is easy for her to use. However, the support for Java is limited. Most of the time it seems to lock up when accessing Java applets. Is there a work-around or upgrade?"

A google search for "+iphone operating system" reveals this page that says the CIDCO iPhone uses JavaOS. It doesn't specifically talk about the InfoGear phone, but they use the same trademarked name. The InfoGear phone appears to be an updated version of the CIDCO product, and both are compared on the specifications page.

Looking at the infogear website (changing the URI from the slashdot post) shows that amongst other positions, they're looking for "Systems Software Engineers" with experience with VxWorks.

I beleive the page you reference, but what I'm curious about is: if the phones use JavaOS, then why don't they run Java applets?
