Deep Space: Newly Discovered Atlantic Vent Field
JChris writes: "We see a lot of news about outer space on Slashdot, but
not so much about inner space, specifically, the oceans. This
article about a newly discovered hydrothermal vent system, "reminds us that the ocean still has much to reveal,"
to steal a quote. I'd also recommend

history and modern status of deep-sea-related research and
environmentalism."
Just outside the harbour og Akureyri (That is a town in the north of Iceland) divers discovered a hydrothermal vent in June of 1997. In April 1998 they found a second vent which is connected to the other with 50 meter long ridge. The second vent was much larger, ca. 60 meters high (that is approx. 200 feet). And the water coming from it is about 70 degrees centigrade.
I'm sorry to say that I've found no web page about this for you ppl to read. I found this info in an archive on a local newspaper web Morgunblaðið and an account is needed to view this, and it can only be found through the search page so I have no link to it.
