NetBSD 1.5/i386 Application ISOs Available

hubertf writes: "The NetBSD pkgsrc crew has released a 2-CD-set loaded with apps for NetBSD 1.5/i386. The set consists of the two files i386pkg1.iso (680MB) and i386pkg2.iso (660MB), and is also available on any mirrors of ftp.netbsd.org. See the README file that describes the contents of the CDs for more details."

    KDE 2.0 does not even build on NetBSD without modifications, and even if it did certain things like the audio libraries wouldn't work. KDE assumes that the audio device is /dev/dsp, but NetBSD uses either /dev/sound or /dev/audio (see the audio(4) manual page for the small difference between the two).

    Is there some specific reason for them not including KDE 2.0 here (only 1.1.2)?
    Are there binariers available elsewhere?

      The KDE2 packages are still being worked on by Nick Hudson. For now, you'll have to live with binary packages of KDE 1.1.2, or for the daring, you can try the beta packages of KDE2 at the following URL: http://www.nthcliff.demon.co.uk/NetBSD/KDE2/index. html

      The truly daring will compile from source. Of course that doesn't usually work too well with complex graphical programs. Ever tried to compile Enlightenment without the BSD-specific patches? It's uber-kludgy and slow.
