Spyware

The New York Times has an article about applications that spy on you and send data home to the mothership. It's not terribly in-depth, but I think that this is a good sign - if the NYT is covering it, word is getting out.

There's a program that I have used a few times called optout, you can download it at: http://grc.com/optout.htm

There's an interesting blurb on their site, mentioning a Spyware Control Act.

Also look at grc.com. They have a spyware-detection program.

The ACDSee image viewer has paid and ad supported versions. Does anyone know if the Ad supported version has been checked for possible privacy and security problems?

Hmm. NYT, who require a login to read their one-of-a-kind news, runs an article about tracking users online? That is the definition of irony. At least in the partners site there are no 0 size images. That would be funny. And ZoneAlarm costs $30 bucks? Just like netscape.

Ring, ring. NYT, phone call: it's the kettle, it says you're black too.

I had a feeling you were going to say that.
