Tutorials and Information on Audio Codecs?

BigOTeeToe asks: "I am interested in learning how to write audio codecs for Windows and/or Linux systems. I have already signed up to the Vorbis developers mailing list, but would like to know if any Slashdotters know of some online resources for codec beginners."

    ... then write codecs for OS/2. Windows doesn't need any, and Linux's multimedia subsystem is not as good as OS/2's. OS/2 needs good audio codecs.

    You really didn't specify what you were trying to do as far as audio codecs go..

    But here's some nice compression resources. Boning up on that should help you write any sort of codecs..
