Read the fordreallysucks.com website, it has information on the many suits brought by ford. Apparently they have also sued a guy who runs http://www.jaguarcenter.com and http://www.jaguarenthusiastsclub.com
both sites are about the animal jaguar and both in England. The guy who ran 4fordparts.com, and 4fordtrunks.com who sells parts, got sued, and offered to turn over the domain site, got told that he still owed ford $6000.00 (3000 for each name) and he paid up, figuring it would be cheaper than to goto court. I really hope EFF would contact this guy and offer to help him, but I don't know if its possible to counter sue after you've settled, even if it was blackmail. Oh well.

The Ford Motor Company stockholders meeting will be held on May 9th, 2002. Perhaps a few of us should show up and ask why Ford is wasting so much money on a suit like this. Clearly they could block all referals from any site they wish (much cheaper than a lawsuit).
This is not how I would want my publicly held company to behave.

Someone could buy a share of Ford stock and get a shareholder resolution put on the proxy statement. I see these every year from people who are promoting causes such as disarmament and corporate democracy.

Unless the client is running something like Junkbuster (http://www.junkbuster.com) which can "delete" referer headers.

I haven't been able to read the article yet, but it seems like Ford is just trying to waste 2600's money with pointless lawsuits.
They certainly can't win this case, so for them, this is the next best thing.
Ford and Blue Oval News

Ford has a history of bullying websites around. Their long running problems with Blue Oval News is a perfect example.
The history is here, but basically, Blue Oval News published internal Ford documents that talked about performance problems in the '99 Mustang Cobra. Basically, Ford was advertising better performance than the Mustang delivered. Ford sued to have the documents removed from the website, saying that the documents were trade secrets and were copyrighted. Ford convinced BON's ISP that BON was violating a court order by publishing the documents (despite the fact that the court case had not convened and no orders had been issued), and got the site shut down for a few days. Eventually, Blue Oval News won the case.
If Ford is willing to fight so hard to keep actual facts from being published, I guess it's not surprising that they would want to regulate the disemination of unflattering opinions as well.
