New PHP Magazine Launched
Marco Tabini writes "The website for php|architect was launched today. php|architect is a monthly magazine distributed through secure PDF technology dedicated exclusively to the world of PHP programming.
php|a features articles that tackle "advanced" PHP topics, such as SNMP management and performance improvement techniques. Our goal is to bring a complete reference point to a PHP community that is growing in ranks and ability, dealing with subjects that go beyond the traditional tutorials that have been available until now.
What's more, because it's published in PDF, it's available worldwide at a very reasonable cost (or, at least, we think so!)"
Patches are being made available, in good time.

Hm. If this is via the pdf ebook security thing, i couldn't find a mac plugin for adobe's pdf reader 5. I think they mistakenly alienated all the non-adobe acrobat readers or those who the plugin isn't avail.

There really needs to be a sample issue before I consider coughing up the cash - or at the very least, a sample article.
PDFs are only good for one thing: printing stuff out, and paper sucks. I loose paper, I can't copy from a paper document into a text buffer, people recycle it on me, I'm drowning in paper - bits on a hard drive never really get lost, I can easily copy text out of one document and into another, and I can easily search across gigabytes of documents, except of course when they're PDFs.
Why couldn't they make it a subscription only website? It seems to have the same reach as a PDF downloaded over the internet, and has the added benefit that you don't have to keep downloading another 50MB PDF each time you move to a new computer.

I have been looking for something like this for a while, as theres lots of linux coverage but very little actual coverage of other projects.
It costs very little, works out to about £15 so i think its worth a trial run of 12 months and have subscribed to show my support. Good luck!
"Using PDF also helps us contain costs, and we pass our savings on to in the form of a very convenient cover price
You purchase a single issue of php|a for just $1.99 US ($2.99 Canadian),
or a twelve-month subscription for just $18.99 US ($29.99 Canadian)."
Shouldn't that be $28.99 Canadian for a twelve-month subscription ?
Time travel is possible. We are quickly heading for 1984.

most printed mags cost this much
On what planet?
most magazines cost $5.00 per issue, and at least $30 to subscribe--if you're lucky enough to live in the States. As soon as you're overseas the prices skyrocket!
this is internet age go search the net: /year in a long time
I haven't payed more then $12
Yeah, but this is a *computer* magazine - not a cheap h00ker pr0nmag!
lol!
OK here's printed developer mags prices:
C/C++ Users Journal $20/year
Windows:: Developer Magazine $20/year
Also, the editors should start by spell checking their website. If the site is any indication, this could be a very hard-to-read magazine.
Look at my karma - I'm bad, just like Michael Jackson!
I'm sorry, you must have some special discounts:
CUJ:
1 year US $24.95
1 year Canada $46.00
1 year international $65.00
as I mentioned search the net and evry place from amazon.com to the tiniest mag subscription place has these prices and you can be assured that web developers (me being one of them) aware of places like amazon.com
Okay, I won't doubt that you've made your research. Still, I can't see what's wrong with the price of this magazine and why you're so upset about it...
I wonder if adoption of PHP for scripting by Yahoo was a reason why this mag is getting launched at this time. Yahoo is slowly moving
to PHP in several of its properties and several developers inside and outside of Yahoo will feel the need to use PHP now.
We have no ties to Yahoo!, and the coincidence of things is just...a coincidence.
We just thought that, as developers, we would have liked a magazine dedicated to PHP--and therefore we came up with one!
LOOSE: adj, indicating low intra-assembly connections for a given medium
LOSE: verb, indicating the action of forgetting where an item or a collection of items is/are located
In other words, LOSE an "O" out of your LOOSE grammar!
By the time you add the extra $$$ they want for Canadian orders, and the exchange rate ('cause it has to be un US funds on top of the extre $$$), it's cheaper to buy it from the cute girl behind the counter.
This is why I buy Asimov's, Analog, Fantasy and Science Fiction rather than subscribing. And, on top of this, I get my issues without the stupid mailing label gummed to the front, and I get them quicker than if I subscribed.
