Setting Up Pelco-Based A/V Surveillance?
A not-so Anonymous Coward asks: "I'm working on setting up a surveillance system over a standard IP network and I've ran into some difficulties with the audio. The camera is a Pelco spectra III dome cam, which transmits the video to a web interface via a Pelco-net NET101T-A transmitter. The camera is completely controlled via the web interface. The transmitter also includes bi-directional audio capabilities. I have the audio transmission from the mic working very nicely, but have so far been unable to transmit audio from the PC side to the transmitter, which should route the signal to the RCA audio out, which leads to standard amp/speakers in a remote location. Does anybody have experience with this sort of setup, Pelco hardware specifically, or at least some suggestions?"
i love that people have stopped replying to these crappy ask slashdot headlines...
why tell someone how to do a job theyre about to be paid for???

apostrophes...right...
So lets get this straight - you have a dome shaped cam with speakers and the cam is remote controlled so it moves? So you can remotely control it to look at people and speak to them through it's speakers?
You just want to say "Tee chuta hhat yudd!" to people dont you?
If it is I'll help, but I need to test everything to make sure it all works correctly.
Maybe its not fashionable to call tech support for a product you bought? I mean really don't you think that you would get a faster response that might be able to at least start you in the right direction than waiting for an ask slashdot?
In Republican America phones tap you.
You forgot to post your affiliate link to where you got it. Or did you just steal this from your former employer or something? Surely it would have a 'manual' or 'tech support phone line' or 'place you could return it to since you're not smart enough to make it work' ?
"I have a thingy connected to another thingy and I'm having problems."
I mean really! You don't say what apps you are using or even what operating system! How the hell do you expect anyone to help you?
Anyway, try tech support. That's what they are for. If they fail to help, THEN try slashdot or somewhere with DETAILED info. Tell people what you have tried. Exactly.
By the way, the editors should reject submissions like this for lack of info.
"Our 24-hour, seven-day-a-week program designed to assist any customer with a technical problem involving Pelco equipment, day or night...just dial (800) 289-9100 and ask for technical assistance!"
:-)
Of course...they probably don't support stolen equipment.

If this is, as you claim, a surveillance camera, why do you care about audio out? Are you going to sit there until something bad happens, and then say "Fear me O wrong-doer, behold the might of this camera! It moves, and allows bi-directional audio!"
Just, ummm, check all the cables, try new cables maybe. Everything else is best asked of the Pelco support team, which an earlier poster supplied an 800 number for.
Kind of interesting trend going on these past few months: there aren't any Ask Slashdot questions for a few days, and then suddenly there are a dozen poorly-thought-out ones.
...
Go to Cascade Networks. They claim to have experience with Pelco stuff. They sell it too, I guess.
Give me my freedom, and I'll take care of my own security, thank you.
