Alex M writes "The GBAX.COM 2003 Coding Competition Winners were announced today. This was a competition was to develop a Game Boy Advance game or an emulator. The winner was Sean Reid with a fun and addictive game called Wonkie Guy. This game plus the other winners can be downloaded from results page. Is Hemos going to download the game and then burn it on a cartridge using some sort of imported Jap. technology? If so, please tell me more about it. Yes, I followed the link, but I was a bit overwhelmed by a lot of cards, readers, and other stuff.

There are several gadget-things allowing you to run code on the GBA, which differ in storage, speed, ability to run GB/GBC stuff, storing multiple games on one cart, saving game states, problems with the newer GBA SP... anybody cares to let us know what's what and where to order it?

You can find developer/backup gear for the GBA at these sites:

I personally use the Xtreme USB linker with a 64mbit cart, and it works well with both old and new (SP) GBA's. In fact there is no incompatibility, flash carts that work on the GBA will work on the SP. To learn more about the GBA dev scene, check out:

the above sites have links to many other sources for dev kits, c tutorials, ARM chip details, GBA specs, etc.

Unfortunately, I couldn't get my game done in time for the GBAX.com deadline, but here it is: Vitamins, a GPL'd clone of Dr. Mario for GBA. From the looks of things, it appears CmdrTaco would want to play this.

Vitamins looks nice, it will be one of the first games I test once I have my hardware (have to decide what to buy first, though).

CmdrTaco may also be interested in the upcoming Gamecube "Nintendo Puzzle Collection" which supposedly lets you download portable versions of the three games included (Dr. Mario, Yoshi's Cookie, and Panel de Pon) to your GBA.

My hypothesis is that Mario worked as a plumber mostly to pay his way through medical school.

    Buy the MBV2 cable first.

    upcoming Gamecube "Nintendo Puzzle Collection"

Which is the whole reason why I rushed Vitamins and released a milestone 1 without most of the useful features I was planning, essentially a direct port of my earlier Vitamins game for PC. I wanted First Post, and I got it.
