Crouching Tiger, Hidden Bootleg

Thanks to an anonymous reader for pointing to a Magic Box article showing screenshots from the bootleg arcade game Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon 2003. Although there are few details on this title, it seems to be a South American-sourced Neo-Geo cartridge that doesn't actually have the actual movie license, but is 'borrowing' its name, along with most of the gameplay of King of Fighters 2001 and a bunch of backgrounds from the Street Fighter series. So many years after the Street Fighter II bootlegs, it's amazing to see people are still 'enhancing' arcade games for cultures where the 2D arcade fighter is still popular.

the publisher's name is Phenixsoft. It's only a matter of time before the Phoenix BIOS has a Street Fighter game builtin, and once they do, you know they're gonna sue the crap outta these guys.

Maybe the company should rename itself to FireBird.

Someone pirated an idea.. Didn't do a terribly amazing job with it.. Released it and either made some money or gained a shard of publicity in the small circle of 2D fighter developers..

    uh.. Great.

Don't we have some heavy science to deal with now?

Is it better than Mugen? I mean, Mugen if it were on an "Arcade in a Box."(no longer available, sob...)

Or is it more like one of those Dig Dug cartridges that you get in Thailand that say Doreamon on them and have pictures of Doreamon and Nobita on the packages?

No one talks about the street fighter 2 bootlegs properly! Did you know that they were EVERYWHERE, in major arcade chains, stores etc. They almost completely replaced the original street fighter champion edition untill turbo came out. There is NOTHING like this in the retail history of the US where major chains put out obvious bootleged things. I mean this is like GAP selling mexican flea market knock off Tommy Hilfger. The bizzare thing is that they are nowhere to be found now.
