FCC Still Taking Comments Cell Number Portability
ovrclokd writes "As a followup to the recent court ruling in their favor: through June 13th, the FCC is still taking comments on the CTIA petition for relief from the cell phone number portability deadline in November. Wireless carriers are apparently claiming that inability to keep from changing phone numbers when changing carriers isn't inhibiting competition - let's let the FCC know we don't agree!"
"Please write your 'comments' on the back of a blank check made payable to 'Michael Powell, Chairman, FCC', and hand deliver the self-addressed envelope behind the 7-11 at 4th and Main next Saturday at 2 AM."
"FCC Still Taking Comments Cell Number Portability"
er, something's missing, either a colon after "Comments" or some word like "Regarding" or "Concerning" in between "Comments" and "Cell"
Only a complete pinhead could say, as he did, "Just because purchases of additional media enterprises is now possible, thanks to our ruling, doesn't mean that the media will lose all diversity. Companies only buy up these media properties when it makes good business sense." As to making sense, apparently he's the only living being inside the radius of Neptune who's never heard of AOL-Time-Warner. Second, the FCC allowed greater ownership of radio stations years ago and in fact radio is owned by a smaller number of companies than ever before, and in most markets radio now sucks donkey dick, thus taking a public resource - the airwaves - sucking all the juice out and handing back a turd. Finally
Now I'm pretty sure even your average flatworm can tell that most people often don't want to switch cellphone carriers because they don't want to give up their phone number. This is inherently anti-competetive. Remember, Capitalism is about competition, so what is anti-Competetive is anti-Capitalist - and pro-fascist (state control of pseudo-market economy). He can't possibly be stupid enough to believe that a failure to enforce the law (portability of cell phone numbers) will do anything except protect an already anemic industry (wireless services in the US lag behind most of the developed world and much of the under-developed world as well) against the forces of competition and against the best interests of the people of the United States of America. Powell is a turd.
Expanding a vast wasteland since 1996.
I think there should be a fee to keep your number when changing carriers. Like $50. They the rest of us who DONT CARE to keep the same number wont get dinged each month $1 for Line Portablity Charge!!!!
Keep it as it is and while at it AXE E911 that I pay for and is not available to me. I HATE PHONE CHARGES!! SHOULD BE ILLEGAL. SHOULD BE PART OF THE MONTH RATE NOT ABOVE IT!
The article that the link points to informs the reader that the delays in implimenting LNP that the cellular carriers all seem to want will no longer be granted.
With a growing tendency towards cellphone's playing an important role in multiple sphere's of a consumer's life, the absence of number portablity is a free stick for cellular providers that they can use to beat consumers into silently accepting less-than-optimal cellular service and the desire to delay on the part of the major cellular carriers is understandable, if vile.
With this in mind, it would seem that the 1996 law mentioned in the article demands that cellular providers finally give consumers the number portability that is currently denied them.
In other words, the article tells us that government is actually working to *enforce* a provision of the law to the benefit of consumers.
