Unofficial Adventure Sequel Demonstrated
Thanks to RetroGames for pointing to the project page for Adventure II, an unofficial Atari 5200 sequel to the classic Atari 2600 version of Adventure. There's a 40 percent version available for download, and the page asks you to bear in mind that "..the dragon will eat you (resetting the demo) if he bites you too many times." In related news, this review of the Atari 10-In-1 TV Game, including the original version of Adventure, points out that the world's first videogame 'easter egg', sneaked in by creator Warren Robinett and containing his name, has been changed in the new TV Game version to the word 'TEXT' - shurely shome mistake?
Could it be?

The Atari 10-in-1 isn't exactly news - it's been released last year, and the games are changed in subtle ways - it's possible that the games have been re-coded or ported rather than emulated or running on identical hardware.
If you really want NEWS (should I submit this as a story?) Check out the 10-in-1 and 25-in-1 Intellivision systems.
This new sequel looks pretty good - I like the updated graphics.
However, if you want an experience which is more true to the original game, you should check out Indenture - an old DOS game that is an expanded re-creation of Adventure, done in the same style.
It also has a better easter egg than the new joystick based multi-games...
Please don't ruin the nostalgia for others, just becuase this game is not new enough for you. I for one am glad this news was posted on Slashdot, as I am sure most of Slashdot users are. The game does not have to be new to be great. For example, I am playing The Day Of The Tenticle right now, which is probably the latest game I find well made. Every newer game I have seen was not even worth the bits it was made of. If you don't like it, than you are free not to read it, but please don't ruin it for other people who might enjoy it.
Karma: Positive (probably because of superiour intellect)
Isn't that a violation of the GPL??
I found a pic of the 10 in 1 system, here.

I found an easter egg in Quake 3. What you do is you go into a multiplayer game of Capture the Flag. Then, get really really good at using the railgun. Once you reach a certain level of accuracy, the game will call you a 'faggot camper'!

Pathwalker: Are there any screen shots of this Indenture? I didn't find any.
:)
Thank you in advance.

It looks the same as the original, and has a classic mode that is... well the classic game. I think it's free ware even so its worth the download, I have hiding on my home sysyem somewhere...
On Wall Street they say "buy low, sell high" On the pad we say, "buy high, sell high" Isn't that somehow better?
...without a crappy Atari 5200 controller in my hand with the really bad red buttons on it. :)
No seriously though.. I _loved_ my Atari 5200, but those controllers were awful.
The amount of time I spent playing Mountain King, Joust, and Countermeasure... daaaaamn.
