Yep, one in the same, course I wouldn't phrase it that way. :-)

Judging by the number of posts here, LA isn't as popular as it used to be.

Or maybe it's just us geek shying away...

Will they have a wireless access point there so we can get free internet access?

I don't understand why in an age that allows you to work from anywhere, everybody seems to flock to the same small areas: New York, Boston, Silicon Valley, etc. You wouldn't believe the quality of life that a tech-worker can have in the midwest, for instance. If you can supply something of value to the uber-inflated bi-coastals and then spend your money in places like the Dakotas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, you can live like a king. Seriously. You could walk in and buy a whole town for the price of a condo in Redondo. The big cities are cool, and all, especially when you can visit them for the fun and nightlife and then drive away from the smog when the parties are over and get back to Healthy America.

Because there are some things you can't find in rural areas. (no surprise there)

People live in certain geographies for certain reasons, and cost, land, and salaries are only part of it.

In a word: options. Not the worthless dot-com variety but tech job options. If a job becomes unbearable, in a big city I have more options to work elsewhere. In Fresno, I'd have to hate life or move (I'm originally from the area so I can beat up on it a bit ;-). Given the number of times I've changed jobs, having options is better for me.

Sure, you can live like a king. But then you realize you're in the Dakotas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, or Nebraska. ;-)
