Epic Announces Unreal Contest Machinima Finalists

ILL Robinson writes "Epic Games has annnouced the finalists to the Machinima competition of their Make Something Unreal Contest. Some of the finalists are definitely worth a look -- my current faves being The Tournament by Friedrich Kirshner, The Showdown by Accelerated Pictures, and Lucky Man by James Hamer-Morton. Epic has also announced that they're pushing back the deadline on the Machinima category to Phase 4 so that the filmmakers have more time to polish their works. Congrats to the latest round of finalists!"

These movies look great. It's exciting to see how far Machinima has come.

Here's a good line from one of the finalists' website...

"30fps is fine for streaming video, but if you have what it takes you'll want to render The Showdown on your own rig and watch it at 120fps. We don't call 1600x1200 Machinima, we call it film resolution."

    Cool.

Film resolution? Lord, these folks are like desperate Hollywood wannabees. And Hollywood is the last place you want to be for creativity.

If they're so intent on making a new genre, then do it, and stop using previous nomenclatures.
