Munich Posts Want Ad - Seeking Linux Experts

Krafty Koder writes "Groklaw have posted an English translation of this Munich job post. As part of project LiMux the mayor of Munich is looking for English speaking 'Linux Experts'. It's not clear if German is also a requirement, but considering that these are government posts, it probably is."

    Logically speaking, if you're applying for a job in Germany, you should have to sprecken the deutsche.

      well, a lot of tech workers hop between borders without learning the local language and don't even plan to(beyond what you need to buy beer&etc) since they'll be in the country for just a year or two.

      You meant: Du solltest fliessend deutsch sprechen können.

      And a bit of bavarian dialect is probably good too:

      Du muast hoit sho a auf a bia geh kinna.

      (You should be able to go for a beer as well). Oh and on that. Bavarian beer is not the same as the water version you mostly get in the US. And a glass is 500ml.

      This job will be requiring a lot of work beyond technical stuff. You will need to speak german.

      Sehr witzig. I wish I had mod points. Part of my wishes I were unemployed so that I could take my dual US/EU citizenship and apply for this job.

      Bavarian beer tastes like shandy. I don't understand you people. Sure, it's miles better than Bud, Miller, & the rice beers, but so is the rest of American beer. We do just fine.

    You can be certain that fluent written and spoken German will be a requirement. How would you otherwise work together with your team and more importantly talk to the future without the additional language barrier.

    ... instead of nice sunny places like Napoli, Valencia, Split, Tunis, ...

    Why are the interesting tech jobs mostly in dull places with bad weather, no decent coffee and generally bad food?

    Well, there is India which is sunny and has nice food, but that's really too far away...

      Much as I like Indian food, everybody I know (apart from Indians, who seem to have some kind of immunity) who's actually eaten anything in India has ended up shitting their arse inside-out.

    I'm currently using Suse 9.1 64-bit AMD64 Professional (2.6.x kernel) living in Texas. I haven't used my German in a looong time, I just need a refresher course. Do they need an American computer geek (who also speaks some Russian and good enough Spanish) that's crazy in love with Linux??

    One thing they don't mention is the pay rate or salary.
