Peter Packet The Cisco Security Game
antdude writes "A forum user at Broadbandreports.com found Peter Packet, Cisco's Security Game. Peter can dodge viruses, evade hackers, the whole nine yards. That is the real reason why the Internet is safe! There is a cool introduction, music, games, informative stuff (educational), etc. Quite amusing. You need Flash to view it."
I hope Yahoo sponsored that little yelp as he dove through the door...

Really high production values. Feels like something that came out of Disney.
Although it is odd hearing a little girl sing about IP and firewalls.
The game itself isn't half bad either. Too many cutscenes though.
I actually enjoyed this blatant advertisement of a game. The theme song is cheesy but catchy and the gameplay is actually fun. (In one of the minigames, you have to stand in for a broken router until the new shiny ass-kicking Cisco router gets there.) The things it teaches about routing and security are oversimplified but are close enough to the truth for the average person.
And I laughed out loud upon learning that the stated objective is to carry an email to its destination - for the benefit of a poor little Indian girl whose father can't work because he burned his hands while at his job at the match factory.
suck
Now, that's a really good commercial (well, just the opening song/animation)
....
Just not to be taken on the first degree

Poor Peter, life as Spidey must have gotten boring after a while... Oh, -Peter Packet-. Never mind.
My CISCO class is often reprimanded for playing this game when we're supposed to be reading the boring modules. When we first discovered it, our teacher couldn't believe that it was on the acually CISCO website. The sad thing is, that game does a better job of explaining certain things than the modules do. Those things tell you what you need and only what you need.... Now, if they would only put Quake 3 up on their site, it would make it much easier for us to play in class, although, that doesn't stop us from doing it already. I think the sound of someone being fragged by the railgun is a lot more likely to be heard than seeing one of us actually doing what we're supposed to be...
Nice trick. You can't get me to download games of the evil intarweb! I am smarter than that, naughty hacker.
Oooo... Photoshop, and it's only 150k. [click]

I'm not sure if the game is just an excuse for the plot, the plot is just an excuse for the social lesson, or the social lesson is just a plot to teach us that packets are people too, I mean to buy cisco routers.
Damn you Cisco for perpetuating the negative hacker stereotype. I can't believe that the 'bad guy' is the evil, data stealing hacker. And who the hell wears a hat like that anyway?
Totally Badical Dude!!!!!!

Would be nice if it I could actually get past the cut scenes and actually play.
So far the game seems incredibly boring consisting of watching 'loading..' with crap 2 sec cut scene every so often
GPLv2: I want my rights, I want my phone call! DRM: What use is a phone call, if you are unable to speak?
Beat the game, and you automatically earn a CCIE Certification. Yeahh.
