New Prince of Persia to have Live Component

IGN is running a story regarding the upcoming Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. The Xbox version of the game will have downloadable content and leader boards thanks to Xbox Live. I always hated how the first PoP had a big "LIVE ENABLED" sign on the front of the box, but the only feature was "Voice Chat".

      Ahh!
I ment Friends, not voice chat.
All friends does is tell you if your friends are online.

    So what?

Is this really considered Slashdot-worthy? This is something that has been done with plenty of other non-multiplayer games.

I already used my last mod point, or I would mod you up. There's nothing really new or interesting about this story. For one, the online components just kinda bite. For another, they've been done before. For another, the game is coming out on 4 systems, and I highly doubt that the Xbox version is going to be the one most people want.

It's downloadable content and online rankings. There is no mode involving more than one player at a time. Which is understandable, considering the things the game does with time.

SHUT UP!! This article is worthy, maybe you are not worthy. This is an article in the 'games' section of /. This article states a new development in the PoP game, one in which I think many PoP fans will appreciate. I'm tired of people asking if articles are /. worthy. If you do not like the article or think its worthy then DONT RTFA.

Forgive my cynicism, but I've heard this "Downloadable content" shtick before.

While a good idea in theory, with only a few exceptions, developers just don't ever deliver on that promise, and why should they? The X-box just doesn't have the user base to justify extra hours of development for things that only about a quarter of the user base is even going to bother with. The only reason I even have Live anymore is beause I forgot to cancel it, and whole my circle of friends is hardly a representative sample of gamers, of the dozen or so that bought into it at launch, I am the only one that still has an account.

At this point printing "Downloadable Content" is akin to listing "Scene Selection" on a movie DVD as a special feature.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It depends on the game. Ghost Recon: Island Thunder, for example, had more content download (for free) than shipped with the actual game, pretty much. I guarentee that we'll be seeing many downloadable maps for Halo 2 as well. As for Prince of Persia, I'd guess there may be just a handful of these maps, not unlike Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, which just had two.
