I have to say that after looking over the schedule there are quite a few talks I wish I could attend ... except that it is too far away. Also the majority of the talks are in German, and I somehow doubt that there will be translators present. Now what would really rock is if someone made a transcript of the event so that I could read it at my leisure in the comfort of my tiny appartment. Perhaps someone should offer a conference transcript service, I know I would be willing to pay for it.

Not true though: As far as I regcognized about 70% of the lectures are held in english. Also, all lectures will be filmed on video and available after the congress.

...will the proceedings of this conference be available publicly? I would imagine so, but it would be interesting if the software and ideas generated by a gathering like this could be widely disseminated.

In the academic world, these kind of conferences often just translate into cruft on CV's.

The CCC organised something similar last season and then just left the server online and forgot about it.

Some Spanish group crafted a new exploit and broke into it a week or so ago, placing the details of the participants in the web.
The CCC talked them into taking some of the more sensitive stuff offline again, but it was hugely embarrasing to them. Sending e-mails to all participants warning them what had happened was not their finest moment.

And? You think getting hitted by an 0day is a shame? Hell boy! It is everytime embarrassing to get caught with pants in the knees, but they made it public, notified the people and disclose the 0day. What groups would do the same thing in that situation? I personally don't think that many ....
