MoLinux: From Progeny To Greatness

linuxbeta writes "MoLinux 1.0 is a new Spanish distribution based on Progeny Debian with the Anaconda installer, that is headed for greatness. At OSDir we couldn't let this one slip by with a screenshot tour, so here it is."

Sorry wrong thread. Once I logged in, the story at the top of the page changed. Why does that happen? Anyway, arent there already a zillion Linux distros in every real language, and some fake ones like Klingon?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't a lot of distributions have multi-language offerings built in? That is, you just choose your language at the start of installation, and from that point on, everything is in your language of choice?

I don't see what makes this distribution better than any other. The screenshots make it seem same old, same old.

Okay, this sounds very trollish. But I wonder where the line is between "Hey, check out this neat project that I personally like" and "This is actually something relevant to other people".

Yes, sir: you can also set your LOCALE and 80% of the program will "change their language" for you.

But not *all* of them will behave this way.

That's why sometimes new distributions will come out with PROPER wording in one's language.

Hopefully, the changes will also be main-streamed ;)

Debian, plus the pretty-ness of Anaconda. I think the others distros could learn a lot from this.

While I first thought "bah, repackaged RedHat" from looking at the screens, I quickly realized it had a crucial difference (aside from being Debian) -- it actually looked good. Looks like they spent plenty of time choosing replacement graphics, as it looks quite stunning for a default installation.

I can speak neither Spanish nor about the Spanish-specific aspect, but it sounds good. I'm thinking the advantage here is that it's completely localized -- that is, if Spanish ports of AppX exist, they'll use it instead. Not entirely sure. Also, if anyone knows, are they using a UTF-8 locale by default?
