Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Site Live

The official site for Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is now live, with trailers and information now available. Unfortunately, the site makes heavy use of Flash and a fast connection is likely required to make effective use of the site.

The trailer is definitely hott (with two T's, of course). While it was all rather quick, it looked to me like the fight sequences combined some innovative camera maneuvers that I haven't really seen before. The fact that things aren't limited by what a camera can physically do, combined with the stylized artwork of the characters (not as "realistic" as the first Final Fantasy tried to be), could be quite refreshing in the theatre.

So is this a videogame or a movie?

If it's a movie, it just looks like your average videogame cut-scenes. Nothing particularly impressive. Nothing awful, either.

Anyone else bored to death by the bland elven, femme-boys with the muscle-tone of a twelve year old girl that are able to magically weild swords the size of steel girders?

I haven't played Final Fantasy since the original Sega. I tried VIII and found that the game is just too linear. The "game" and "RPG" part is inconsequential and may as well just be done away with so the player can stare at a sequence of cut-scenes, which is all it really was anyway.

But I guess teenage girls like it or whatever. *shrug*

I know you disliked the game(s) because it was supposed to be something else. I guess people over hype it about final fantasy sometimes so you might think it was supposed to be a ground breaking rpg with freedom similar to an elder scrolls game.

None the less, I don't think it is a problem that the game was on rails. I enjoy a good story. The story could come across in a movie (completly on rails, zero ineractivity), a book (zero ineractivity, and i cant even imagine what the characters are thinking becuase its told to me, but most vivid because i can create the world and characters in my head) or a video game.

I enjoyed a lot of the old sierra and lucas arts adventure games. They were very straight forward and didn't even offere the small amount of flexability in final fantasy games once you open up the "explore the world" stage of one of the games.

I am a fan of rpg games that create a wide range of characters and give them a personality for me to disocver. Final fantasy usually does this, as well as proving a fun story arc with a few plot twists to keep me intersted.

So maybe you do prefer having main characters that never speak, where the character is only as deep as you make them in your head. I like this style of game a lot too, but they are few and far between and hard to create.

But at the same time I also enjoy being fed interesting characters and interesting situations.

As an aside, I wonder if converting books to video games would yield some great rpg games ala final fantasy. Putting a great fantasy/sci fi series of books in a rpg game in the final fantasy style keeping it mostly on rails, would do a great job bringing the book to life. More so then a movie which is limited in time. A video game usually can have around 40 to 60 hours of narration time, and can defiantly capture a book more so then a movie.

I'm not saying that additional detail is an experience killer when it comes to 3D modeling. It's not. I'm talking about the ugly character designs in FF7AC making everyone look weird for no reason. Of course, there's such thing as creative license. And then there's my right to have an opinion that creative license was used poorly, because of the ugly results.

Back to the mad libs, you have to actually make it sound credible in order for it to be anything close to clever. The copy/paste job you did made no sense, given the reality of Final Fantasy 3 (either one).
