Lyrics for OpenBSD 3.8 Song Out

PrayingWolf writes "The lyrics for the OpenBSD 3.8 song "Hackers of the Lost RAID" have been released.
As always, remember to read the lefthand column for what the song is related to - this time it's about (you guessed it) RAID drivers..."

    Whenever I set up an Asterisk PBX for someone it always comes with the OBSD songs as the hold music, makes for some confused callers :-)

      Slashdot takes a long time to cover things -- e.g. days or weeks. Other news sources ARE more up to date. Yet people still seem to come here, if only to complain about Zonk's dupes, rejected news stories that pop up later, and so on.

      I call the continuing popularity of Slashdot, in spite of its mediocrity, the "Slashdot Paradox".

    Hopefully it will get accepted as it is more interesting than 3.8 song lyrics.

    OpenBSD 3.8 will be released on November 1st which will offer a number of new features. Among the new features are several changes to the network stack that help reduce the imapact of DoS attacks. SecurityFocus conducted an interview with three of the project's developers in which they share more details about the upcoming release and this new significant change. Check it out and then please support a fine open source project!

      I have to wonder, who is doing all of this rejecting?

      Long ago, I ran a moderated mailing list. Members were concerned about the potential for moderator abuse, so we implemented a system where if any one moderator approved a post, it would be published, but a submission would only be rejected if every single moderator chose to reject it.

      We ended up getting buried in duplicate posts and junk approved by lazy moderators who just chose "accept" for every single submission...

    You do get what you ask for around here, if you hate on the central topic of the article you're either going to be supported or attacked, you just hated on a BSD in a BSD article, instantly making you an overrated flamebaiting troll.

    If you'd just chosen not to make a dumbass comment you'd not have had the horrific loss of karma. You know, if you don't have anything nice to say, and care about your karma, don't say anything at all.

  8. The power of OpenBSD Songs by Sun+Tzu · · Score: 2, Funny

    The OpenBSD songs, while not as popular as some alternatives, contain fully audited lyrics and music, and are among the most secure compositions you can play on a computer.

    For use on conventional CD players, there is little security advantage to running OpenBSD songs.

    At one point they were considering using a different set of lyrics:

    Day is done, gone the sun,
    From the lake, from the hills, from the sky;
    All is well, safely rest, God is nigh.

    Fading light, dims the sight,
    And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright.
    From afar, drawing nigh, falls the night.

    Thanks and praise, for our days,
    'Neath the sun, 'neath the stars, neath the sky;
    As we go, this we know, God is nigh.

    Sun has set, shadows come,
    Time has fled, Scouts must go to their beds
    Always true to the promise that they made.

    While the light fades from sight,
    And the stars gleaming rays softly send,
    To thy hands we our souls, Lord, commend.
