EA's Army of Two
EA today confirmed the existence of a much-anticipated next-gen title, Army of Two. From the Eurogamer article: "Army of Two 'will throw gamers into hot spots ripped from current day headlines,' says EA, where they will use two-man strategies and tactics, transitioning between playing with an AI partner or a live player. We're told that EA's wanted to make this for ages, but until now it's felt that the hardware couldn't deliver a suitably believable co-operative AI player."
Sounds like they're trying to one-up the US Army.
If it's really ripped from modern day headlines, that means the game shows up at your door without you wanting it, it has a shaky story about why you have to play it, but you have to play it, and when you're finished playing you have to play again and again. All of this even though everyone knows the reason why you had to play in the first place was based on lies. And to top it all off, by playing, you're making some big companies lots of money.
News for nerds, stuff that matters? It's a bloody press release. I despair.
I thought this article was about the two programmers they have chained up in their dungeon doing all the work :(
Tom Clancy's Army of Three will revolutionize the tactical shooter in the same way Rainbow 6, Rogue Spear, Ghost Recon, and Splinter Cell have.
But is the world of nerd news dying? Where's all the nerd news? I'm a gamer and all, but half of todays stories on /. are about games? What's going on? Did /. discover that the ads for games are worth more or something?

KumaWar, anyone? Yeah, real innovative, EA.

Is it just be or is there a rise in the number of "mercenary games".
..."Army of 0..*". That would be pretty wicked. You can play as zero, one, or many soldiers.
There are only a hanful of recent games that impliment a well-made co-op mode. For the past 3 years this has been a feature that everyone has been clamoring for, so it's nice to hear that a mega-studio will emphasize this to such a degree. I can only hope that other games will put in this type of option.
I hope it allows split screen offline co-op and not just online multiplayer.
I thought they were talking about their still-alive programmers. Nevermind.
How can a game that was just officially announced be "much anticipated"?
Once that's over, things will change. You can never go back to normal though, no matter what they tell you. You can only create a new normal.
"EA will release some game about some thing some time".
The hardware couldn't produce suitable AI? When have the programmers ever been able to produce suitable AI in the software for a fun co-op? "Robots" and "co-op gameplay" are two words that have yet to mix to produce anything remotely resembling fun games. Good luck to EA.
