Ubuntu Satanic Edition Banned From Distrowatch
skeeto writes "The infamous Ubuntu Satanic Edition has been banned from Distrowatch by the site's maintainer, Ladislav Bodnar, who said, 'There is no way I am going to add this distro to DistroWatch. [...] I don't consider the name "Satanic edition" as an appropriate name for a Linux distribution.' But the main reason seems to be that 'Ubuntu is a registered trademark of Canonical. You need to show me an official permission from Canonical that grants you the use of the word Ubuntu in your product's name.' What about Muslim and Christian editions? It seems that worries about trademark infringement and offensive material does not stop Distrowatch from including those."
can you say "censorship"? I get the feeling that the distrowatch dude is a religious republican who is against fairness and other religious practices. I have to say that it's stupid that Satanic Edition is not ok (even if I am not a satanist) but yet the muslim and christian editions are. What hypocrisy!
Isn't it obvious Satan created this issue so there could be a controversy while he sits back and laughs on his iron hot-red metal seat with pins sticking up all over the place?
slashdot rocks
Sure there are Christian editions of Ubuntu along with Muslim editions, but when the owner has an issue, I think he's allowed to not put it up on the site, does that bar this edition from being produced & downloaded.. no... it's a matter of personal choice that's all.. not Hypocrisy, or Censorship,
it's really more of a shame we have enough time of day to give a fuck. Wake up, asshole.
How are the ideals of Satan, and the ideals of Opensource, Linux, and Ubuntu, similar?
It seems to be an oxymoronic distrobution if anything...
Look, the Satanic edition has nothing to do with Satan or real Satanism. It's just skinned with a metalhead Bevis and Butthead style satanism theme. And the guy that runs Distrowatch is perfectly free and within his rights to not add a distro that he doesn't feel like adding, quit your bitching.
it's not much of a distro. Only a new skin. Christian edition, even though I don't agree with it, does include different packages with their release. That's why I wouldn't put it in, it's just a theme.
ive rtfa, and ive followed up a bit (well, before the troll line anyhow) on the replies at the satanic linux site. distrowatch already has a devil linux listed. its not like devil linux is seriously unique.
they also have a christian ubuntu.
if satanic ubuntu doesnt get canonical on board i dont see how in the world they can make this distro anything near "official" enough to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt
distrowatch is being a bunch of steadfast bigoted censors. i dont like the name (by it alone im not sure it will gain anymore ground than flamewar) but i stand by the GPL in that they have a right to do this, strong handed censorship tactics or not.
Good people go to bed earlier.
