Prisoner Mails Himself to Freedom

Drug dealer Hans Lang escaped his German prison cell by hiding in the laundry room and mailing himself in a giant FedEx box of dirty laundry. He waited until the driver made a stop, at which point he picked the lock on the back of the van and ran off into the woods. A spokesman for police said, "It's the kind of thing people think only happens in films — but in this case it is very real." The mailing-yourself bit is good, but I was always a fan of the giant slingshot out of jail myself.

This prison sends its dirty laundry out via FedEx? Isn't that a little pricey?

If you look at the BBC version of the article it tells the same story but with some quite different details. I'm intrigued as to how both articles manage to have such precise detail (rather than simply foregoing that level of depth) but show some clear differences.

Ms Peters said fellow convicts must also have known of his plan but that they would not talk because of a "code of honour" and because it is a criminal offence in Germany to help somebody escape from jail.

And everywhere else helping someone break out of jail is perfectly legal?

is that the technical term? e.g. "My suspicions have lead me to suspect that the esteemed journalist was simply making shit up"
