Church Baptises Baby With Cola

A Norwegian priest had to improvise during a baptism ceremony when it was discovered the church taps had been turned off because of freezing temperatures. His solution was to use lemon-flavored cola. Priest Paal Dale said the family was informed about the switch after the ceremony. He added, "It had gone flat. Only the lemon smell made this unusual." This enduring covenant between god and your child is brought to you by Coca-Cola.

Cola refers specifically to the brown carbonated beverage which was originally made from the Kola nut. Colourless "lemon-flavoured" beverages are not colas.

What if they used something like Coca-Cola with Lemon or Pepsi Twist? Are those not lemon-flavored colas?

It'd be a bit difficult to prevent the family from noticing if the "water" was dark brown.

Hadn't heard of that... but then, I somewhat doubt they used that. (It did say it smelled like lemon.) ;)

I think I was the only person in the world that liked Crystal Pepsi. I am hoping for its second coming, but I think it's about as likely as the J-man's.

In the US, there are an many words for "carbonated beverage" as there are dialects. They are commonly referred to as "soda", "pop", "soda-pop", and "cola". Even worse than "cola" is a southern US dialect that uses the word "coke" to mean carbonated beverage.

      I'll have a Coke.

      What kind?

A coke, you know, a soda..

      Yes, but what kind?

It's almost about as bad as the words for "long sandwich", which are "hero", "sub", "grinder", and "submarine sandwich". Then there are various definitions of what constitutes an "Italian sub". Moving from NJ/NY to the west coast was a shock for me.

The funniest US dialect uses the word "mash" instead of "push/press" when referring to pushing buttons on a remote or phone. You do not "press 1 for English", you "mash" 1.
